SHOCK - The GOP actually did something

A World Record.
Wow! The GOP did two things in one week.

By Gary;

Personally I am in a state of shock.  The schizophrenic and arthritic Republican Party actually managed to stand up for something.  Actually two somethings . . . and all in one week too!

But let's backtrack just a bit.

Go back in time to January, 2011.  The Tea Party Revolution swept the nation in the 2010 elections.  The "Conservative" GOP took power in January and forced the reading of the Constitution on the floor of the House.

It was a great beginning and great theater.  But it ended up being all theater and no substance.

Once in control of the House the "Conservative" GOP reverted to true big government loving form and has rolled over for Comrade Obama on command passing endless spending and debt increasing bills.  And don't even get me started on GOP support for growing an unconstitutional Police State.

So it is amazing to me that any bills of any kind were passed by the GOP to cut anything at all.

Bill #1  -  Obamacare

The GOP has run away
from the Calvin Coolidge
small government wing.
After endless GOP fighting and hand wringing the Republican-controlled House of Representatives managed to pass a bill to fund the government, but defund Obamacare.  There was doubt for weeks that the Republicans would take any action at all.  .

Backed by Karl Rove and other Bush administration big government liberals, huge numbers of Republicans in Congress were frightened to death to do anything to oppose socialism.  Only Tea Party pressure forced a vote.

The measure passed on Friday on a largely partisan vote of 230-189. Only two Democrats, Representatives Jim Matheson of Utah and Mike McIntyre of North Carolina, voted for the bill out of fear of the voters back home.  The rest of the Democrats drank the Kool-Aid hoping to avoid problems in the 2014 elections.

Bill #2  -  Food Stamps
The re-distribution of the wealth through Food Stamps is a huge money maker for Republican owned businesses and farmers.  So the fact that the GOP took any action at all is almost a miracle from Heaven.

In a close 217 - 210 vote the GOP House passed a "massive" $4 billion in food stamp cuts.  A big 5% of the program.  As it is 15 Republicans bailed on these modest cuts.

15 Republicans that voted against the bill:  Reps. Peter King (N.Y.), Shelley Moore Capito (W. Va.), Chris Gibson (N.Y.), Walter Jones (N.C.), Richard Hanna (N.Y.), Chris Smith (N.J.), Frank LoBiondo (N.J.), Don Young (Alaska), Frank Wolf (Va.), Mike Fitzpatrick (Pa.), Jeff Fortenberry (Neb.), Michael Grimm (N.Y.), Patrick Meehan (Pa.), Gary Miller (Calif.), David Valadao (Calif.).

Something is better than nothing.  We will see how this plays out and how firm the GOP will be with the Senate.

I vote that the GOP will cave and the "cuts" will quietly evaporate behind the scenes when no one is looking.

The GOP Platform.
Whichever way the wind blows is the basic platform of the so-called "Conservative" Republican Party.  The GOP has adopted as their own, and voted to fully fund, virtually every New Deal, Great Society and Police State big government program ever invented.  The Republicans have not cut one cent from a Federal budget since the 1920s.
.
Republicans have basically become ultra-liberal New Deal Democrats.
.
You see it clearly with who wins GOP Presidential nominations.  The Big Government loving wing of the GOP has nominated Romneycare author Mitt Romney, wacko moderate John McCain, "compassionate Conservative" big spender George W. Bush, moderate Bob Dole and the worthless tax increasing, George H.W. Bush.
.
Any candidates that represented true Conservatism and small government were defeated.
