Sunday Concert - Madonna

Madonna.  People love to love her and love to hate her.  (I come down on the love part.)

As for the haters, screw 'em.  To start with they hate her music, but they also hate a strong businesswoman who instinctively knows how to manipulate a moronic media to sell her fame and records.

Madonna has sold more than 300 million records worldwide and 120 million singles.  In the U.S. alone she has produced 55 number one singles on the Billboard Hot 100 and Dance charts.  In 2012, after 30 years singing, she charted three more number one singles.

Madonna is recognized as the world's top-selling female recording artist of all time.  She is ranked by the RIAA as the best-selling female rock artist of the 20th century.

Sunday Concert - U2

For a change of pace this summer we will be doing a Sunday Concert series.
.
U2 is one of my favorite rock bands.  They are an Irish band from Dublin. Formed in 1976, the group consists of Bono (vocals and guitar), The Edge (guitar, keyboards, and vocals), Adam Clayton (bass guitar), and Larry Mullen (drums and percussion).

The band's eight No. 1 singles on the U.S. Modern Rock charts places them fifth all-time. The band were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in early 2005.  U2 have sold more than 150 million records.

With the exception of their first three singles (pre-breakthrough), all the band's singles have charted (many at #1).

Sunday Concert - Little Richard and Chuck Berry

Chuck Berry: "The greatest of the rock and rollers."

For a change of pace this summer we will be doing a Sunday Concert series.

Every decade has stereotype images attached to it. The image for the 1950s was James Dean, Marylyn Monroe and Elvis Presley.

While no one can discount the phenomenon that is Elvis, from a pure rock and roll point of view Elvis was a softer, non-threatening boy band image for the Media to pump for ratings and record sales.

Simply that third image of the 50s rightfully belongs to Chuck Berry.  But the 50s and 60s Media machine had no interest in putting a Black American out front to be admired and looked up to by white teenagers.

While no individual can be said to have invented rock and roll, Chuck Berry comes the closest of any single figure to being the one who put all the essential pieces together. It was his particular genius to graft country & western guitar licks onto a rhythm & blues chassis in his very first single, "Maybellene."

Little Richard was close behind Berry as a true father of Rock.  His music also had a pivotal impact on the formation of other popular music genres, including soul and funk.

Sunday Concert - Heart

For a change of pace this summer we will be doing a Sunday Concert series.

Heart is one of my favorite rock bands.  They first found success in Canada and later in the United States and worldwide. Over the group's four-decade history, the band has had three primary lineups, with the constant members being sisters lead singer Ann Wilson and guitarist Nancy Wilson. Heart rose to fame in the mid-1970s with music influenced by hard rock and heavy metal as well as folk music.

To date, Heart has sold over 30 million records worldwide, including over 22 million in album sales in the U.S.

Sunday Concert - George Harrison

For a change of pace this summer we will be doing a Sunday Concert series.
. 
The late George Harrison has always held a special place in my heart.

John Lennon and Paul McCartney were the Beatles primary songwriters, but most of their albums included at least one Harrison composition, including "While My Guitar Gently Weeps", "Here Comes the Sun" and "Something", the Beatles' second most-covered song.

George's solo career was marked by a long string of hit singles and best selling Gold and Platinum records.
