The National Security Agency secretly tapped into the overseas phone calls of prominent critics of the Vietnam War, including Martin Luther King, Muhammad Ali and two actively serving US Senators, newly declassified material has revealed.

The NSA has been forced to disclose previously secret passages in its own official four-volume history of its Cold War snooping activities. The newly-released material reveals the breathtaking – and probably illegal – lengths the agency went to in the late 1960s and 70s, in an attempt to try to hold back the rising tide of anti-Vietnam war sentiment.

That included tapping into the phone calls and cable communications of two serving senators – the Idaho Democrat Frank Church and Howard Baker, a Republican from Tennessee who, puzzlingly, was a firm supporter of the war effort in Vietnam reports the UK Guardian.

The NSA also intercepted the foreign communications of prominent journalists such as Tom Wicker of the New York Times and the popular satirical writer for the Washington Post, Art Buchwald.

In a further paradox, the Washington debate leading to the formation of the Fisa court was spearheaded by the Church Committee – a Congressional panel named after its chair, Senator Frank Church. That was the same Frank Church who a few years before had himself been placed on the NSA watch list.

"I suspect Senator Church never had any idea the NSA was tapping his phone," said Matthew Aid, an intelligence historian specializing in the NSA.

Alongside King, a second leading civil rights figure, Whitney Young of the National Urban League, was also surreptitiously monitored. The heavyweight boxing champion, Muhammad Ali, was put on the watch list in about 1967 after he spoke out about Vietnam – he was jailed having refused to be drafted into the army, was stripped of his title, and banned from fighting – and is thought to have remained a target of surveillance for the next six years.

The agency went to great lengths to keep its activities, known as operation Minaret, from public view. All reports generated for Minaret were printed on plain paper unadorned with the NSA logo or other identifying markings other than the stamp "For Background Use Only".

They were delivered by hand directly to the White House, often going specifically to successive presidents Lyndon Johnson who set the program up in 1967 and Richard Nixon.

The lack of judicial oversight of the snooping programme led even the NSA's own history to conclude that Minaret was "disreputable if not outright illegal".

The new disclosures were prized from the current NSA following an appeal to the Security Classification Appeals Panel by the National Security Archive, an independent research institute based at the George Washington university.

"Clearly the NSA didn't want to release this material but they were forced to do so by the American equivalent of the supreme court of freedom of information law," said Matthew Aid, an intelligence historian specializing in the NSA.

Together with William Burr of the National Security Archive, Aid has co-authored an article in Foreign Policy that explores the significance of the new disclosures. In addition to the seven names of spying targets listed in the NSA history, the two authors confirmed the names of other targets on the watch list from a declassified document at the Gerald Ford presidential library in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

 In total, some 1,650 individuals were tracked by the NSA between 1967 and 1973, though the identities of most of those people remain unknown.

African-American middle school students were forced to act as slaves, pretending to be sold at auction and standing in the darkness of a would-be slave ship, all while enduring racial epithets, a human rights lawsuit filed by a student's mother claims.

Sandra Baker told the Hartford Courant this week that her daughter, who is black, said she and other students in her seventh grade class were “terrorized” during a field trip to Nature’s Classroom in Charlton, Massachusetts. Parents of the students, who traveled from Hartford Magnet Trinity College Academy 45 minutes away, were not told their children would be participating in a slavery reenactment when giving permission for the trip.

The girl told her mother that on the four-day trip in November 2012, the class was forced to pretend to pick cotton, simulate the quiet confinement of riding on a slave ship, and reenact the Underground Railroad - the network that slaves used to travel north and reach freedom before the American Civil War in 1861 reports RT News.

White instructors, who assumed the roles of slave owners and oppressors, told the students that while on board the “ship,” they would have no choice but to go to the bathroom on each other and would be thrown overboard if they were sick.

“I went into a dark room where I had to sit on my bottom with my knees together,” the girl wrote in a statement read by her father this week in front of the Hartford school board. “My legs fell asleep and were hurting.”

She went on to describe how the students were told they would be whipped if they attempted to escape, some even forced to dance for their “masters.”

“I had to hold my head down and could not make eye contact with the white masters,” the 12-year-old stated. “I heard the instructor ask kids behind me to open their mouths so their teeth could be checked. Some were asked to jump up and down.”

Jon Santos, the director of Nature’s Classroom, told The Washington Post that the three-hour exercise was meant to teach students empathy for what slaves were put through, along with lessons about modern day bullying (the current liberal pussy buzzword of the day).

A social worker and mediation specialist (now there is a bullshit occupation) working for Hartford Magnet Trinity College Academy spoke with students earlier this year after they were put through the slavery simulation. An April report seen by the Hartford Courant noted that while some of the students said they have a new found “appreciation for what we have today,” others were clearly upset.

One student wrote that he “started to believe some of the things the group leaders were saying,” and another wrote that it “did not feel like it was a joke, did not know if the leaders were joking.”

Students told the social worker that the staff members – who Santos said average around 25 years of age - used terms such as “Going to get the dogs to eat you” and “Dumb dark-skinned Negro person, how dare you look at me.”

They also reportedly said, “You’re not a person, you’re property,” and “Don’t look me in the eyes, you’re worthless, keep your head down.”

Farmers’ congressional allies are pressuring the Obama administration to ease up on immigration work-site enforcement, underscoring a conflict at the heart of a broad-based immigration bill.
          
This week, spurred by complaints from farmers in California’s Central Valley, Democratic Sen. Dianne Feinstein publicly urged the Department of Homeland Security to “redirect” immigration enforcement efforts toward “serious violent crimes” instead of “legitimate agricultural employers and their workers.”

“The reality is that the majority of farmworkers in the U.S. are foreign-born and unauthorized, which is well-known,” Feinstein wrote Tuesday, adding that she’s “afraid that this aggressive worksite enforcement strategy will deprive the agricultural sector of most of its workforce,” reports McCatchy News.

In 2008, the last year of the George W. Bush administration, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents audited 503 companies nationwide for employee eligibility. Last year, ICE agents conducted more than 3,000 such audits.

In 2008, federal officials issued only 18 “final orders” fining employers and ordering them to stop breaking the law against hiring workers who are in the U.S. illegally. Officials collected $675,209 in fines that year. Last year, officials issued 495 final orders and collected $12.4 million in fines.

“In agriculture, they’ve been focusing on our processors and our packing facilities, and they are causing a tremendous amount of damage,” Manuel Cunha, the president of the Nisei Farmers League in Fresno, Calif., said in an interview Thursday.

The California farmers pressed the point several weeks ago with Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., who was visiting Bakersfield, Calif., as part of a fundraising swing through the Golden State. Cunha said that the farmers, working with GOP and Democrat members of the U.S. House of Representatives from the Central Valley, were trying to raise similar concerns directly with Obama administration officials.

“They’re making these employers fire their workers,” Cunha said.

Border security and interior enforcement play a significant role in the comprehensive immigration bill the Senate passed in June. The massive bill, some 1,920 pages when it passed the Senate Judiciary Committee, grew even larger when senators added more stringent enforcement measures.

The bill includes a provision that requires all employers to adopt the E-Verify employee verification system within five years.

“This is something where we need to have a top-to-bottom approach,” Rep. Jeff Denham of California, one of the House Republicans who now support a comprehensive bill, said during House debate several weeks ago..

The work-site monitoring that’s incited the backlash involves audits of the I-9 forms and accompanying documents that attest to an employee’s work eligibility. Monetary penalties for employers that knowingly hire workers who are in the U.S. illegally start at $375 and may go as high as $16,000 per violation.

Penalties for I-9 violations may range from $110 to $1,100 per violation. This can add up.

Last month, for instance, the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals upheld a $173,250 civil fine against a small Washington state firm called Ketchikan Drywall Services. An ICE audit concluded that the company had failed to maintain accurate and complete I-9 forms for myriad, mostly temporary employees.

“The penalties were imposed for substantive deficiencies,” Judge A. Wallace Tashima wrote for the court.

Every decade has stereotype images attached to it. The image for the 1950s was James Dean, Marylyn Monroe and Elvis Presley.

While no one can discount the phenomenon that is Elvis, from a pure rock and roll point of view Elvis was a softer, non-threatening boy band image for the Media to pump for ratings and record sales.

Simply that third image of the 50s rightfully belongs to Chuck Berry.  But the 50s and 60s Media machine had no interest in putting a Black American out front to be admired and looked up to by white teenagers.

While no individual can be said to have invented rock and roll, Chuck Berry comes the closest of any single figure to being the one who put all the essential pieces together. It was his particular genius to graft country & western guitar licks onto a rhythm & blues chassis in his very first single, "Maybellene."

Little Richard was close behind Berry as a true father of Rock.  His music also had a pivotal impact on the formation of other popular music genres, including soul and funk.

A Douglasville woman accused of fatally stabbing her neighbor appeared in court Thursday, demanding to be released from jail and saying Allah was on her side. Sahara Tabriz Fakhir, 32, was arrested Wednesday on a murder charge in the slaying of Douglas County business owner Jerry Wheeler last month.

In court on Thursday, Fakhir told the judge that Allah would be representing her. She also told the judge she would seek vengeance if he didn’t release her from jail.

“Allah is my lawyer and and if you do not release me, Allah will have his vengeance on you like he did in 2009 when he sent the flood,” she told the judge. “It’s only going to be worse.

In the wake of a Florida jury acquitting George Zimmerman in the shooting death of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin, nutcase California Assemblyman Chris Holden (Socialist Democrat - Pasadena) will call for a boycott on traveling to Florida or doing business there.

It appears that insane Leftist Black Democrats want to abolish trial by jury and establish a Fascist government where the All-Powerful State, backed by the mob, decides your guilt.

Without the permission of the Black Caucus, a jury decided on their own that Zimmerman was not guilty of second-degree murder and manslaughter, concluding that the neighborhood watch volunteer acted in self-defense when he shot Martin reports the Sacramento Bee.

The verdict could signal an "open season on vigilante-type justice," Holden said Wednesday in a telephone interview. So he is preparing a joint resolution, with the backing of the California Legislative Black Caucus, that advocates a boycott of Florida until the state repeals the "stand your ground" law that helped Zimmerman avoid conviction by invoking self-defense.

"What might be an appropriate way for us to usher in change would be for us to have a boycott that focuses on the seriousness and importance of looking at this law and making some changes," Holden said. "We want encourage those who are traveling and planning vacations and conventions and potential ways of spending dollars in the state to hold back until those changes have been made."

Holden added that he was motivated to call for a boycott in part because he has four college-age sons.

"If we lived in Florida, (the verdict) would send a chilling message about their safety and security," he said.

During an interview on “Kilmeade & Friends” on Fox News Radio, West was asked if the verdict was an opportunity to talk about race in America.

“It depends on what you want to talk about. Do you really want to talk about the issues that are confronting the black community or do you want to talk about the politically manufactured crises that you have these faux leaders and these race baiters that are out there, you know, promoting it,” West said reports Politico.

Citing unemployment, the breakdown of the family and education as important issues, West said the media focus on the trial is a distraction.

“If we want to have these media frenzy-created crises, or someone like an Al Sharpton running around all over the country like a charlatan that he is, then we’re not talking about the real issues and we’re not having the real conversations about race,” West said. “We’re never going to have an honest conversation when you have someone like Attorney General Eric Holder that stands up in front of the NAACP and basically says, you know, we’re going to manipulate the law to give you your quote-unquote social justice.”

The laws “sow dangerous conflict in our neighborhoods,” Holder said, by “allowing – and perhaps encouraging – violent situations to escalate in public.”

The Bullshit Holder spews about violence is a joke when you consider his department was shipping guns to Mexican drug cartels to kill women and children.  But the lap-dog media will not ask him any hard questions about that.  They know to obey their Dear Leaders.

“This was a media-led mob, and an innocent man almost went to prison for thirty years because of well, Al Sharpton stirring up hatred and creating a narrative for which there was never any evidence and after this long trial there is still never any evidence,” Coulter said.

“This case never should have been brought. The fact of the matter is thousands of people are killed every year by accident or otherwise.  That is why court systems exist.  But calm, cool, level headed trials do not make money or generate votes for the Media-Racism-Politician Industry.

George Zimmerman may have been acquitted of all charges in the shooting death of Trayvon Martin, but the Media-Racism Industry is not through with him yet.  There is much more money to be made and votes to round up.

The next step is Zimmerman going through double jeopardy and and defending himself against charges from Comrade Obama'a Federal government and a civil case will no doubt come.

Leftists are pressuring the Justice Department to step in and bring a Federal civil rights case against Zimmerman, the Hispanic neighborhood watch volunteer.

“Clearly there are grounds for a civil rights charges,” Sharpton told Gregory.

Publicity whore Sharpton was a key figure in metastasizing the shooting into a national issue in March of 2012, said he and Martin’s family had planned from the beginning to ask for a federal investigation if Zimmerman was let go.

“The mother and father of Trayvon Martin and I with their lawyers met with the U.S. attorneys in Florida, the day I went down to organize the first rally there,” Sharpton said. “We always said there needed to be a Plan B, but there needed to be a Plan A.”

“I watched the whole trial, and no one can say what Trayvon Martin did wrong,” Sharpton argued.

“‘They always get away with it,’ the gentleman said. Who is they getting away with what? That’s the basis of a civil rights trial.”

The People's Republic of California  -  The People's State Senate on Monday approved legislation that would allow immigrants who are not U.S. citizens to "assist" American citizen voters in properly casting their ballots.

I can see it now.  Tens of thousands of "non-citizens" (translation - citizens of foreign nations) will be combing the nursing homes, retirement communities and low income areas to help voters "correctly" fill out millions of absentee ballots.

America is truly fucked.  Our own politicians have sold out American citizens to foreigners.
   
The measure from Assemblyman Rob Bonta, D-Alameda, would allow for up to five non-citizens to serve at a particular polling site. Those poll workers must be permanent U.S. residents who legally entered the country.

Those residents could provide much-needed help to voters with limited English skills, said Sen. Norma Torres, D-Pomona, who presented Bonta's bill.

There are 2.6 million eligible California voters who are not fully proficient in English, reports the San Jose Mercury News.   

"These individuals have the absolute right to make fully informed voting decisions on Election Day," Torres said.     More than three dozen organizations involved in elections and immigrant advocacy have signaled their support for AB817.    

The California Association of Clerks and Election Officials wrote in a March letter to lawmakers that the measure would help counties recruit bilingual poll workers and deputy registrars.    

The Senate passed AB817 on a party-line vote of 22-10, with Republicans in opposition. It heads back to the Assembly, which must adopt minor changes made by the Senate.    

The measure cleared an initial Assembly vote in May. During that floor debate, several Republicans who opposed the bill said serving as a poll worker is a responsibility that should be reserved for citizens.
