Muslims Demand Catholic Schools Teach Islam

The Religion of Peace™

Islam = Fascism
  • Muslim "clerics" demand that Islam be taught in private Catholic schools.
  • Every nation where Muslims become the majority freedom of religion, speech and thought are abolished.

The Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) has once again stirred up controversy over the fact that Islam is not taught in the country’s Catholic schools.

The latest case involves a Catholic school of Klanten in Central Java. Last year, the same thing was front-page news for weeks in Blitar (East Java Regency) and Tegal until Muslim parents came out in defence of the Catholic schools where their children study, emphasising their high level of education.

Hartoyo, the MUI leader in Klanten, urged all private schools, including Catholic ones, to hire qualified staff to teach the Islamic religion to Muslim students. In his view, the absence of Islamic religious teachers is a grave violation of the law because every student should be able to receive lessons in his or her religion reports Asia News.

The local association of private schools (BMPS) agrees. Slamming the lack of Muslim teachers, it demanded that a solution be found and the problem solved “in the best possible way.”

In reality, following a decades-old practice, Indonesia’s private Christian schools, including Catholic ones, are not required to offer courses on Islamic religion or time off to read the Quran, as is the case in state schools. They do however provide seminars and lectures on the Christian religion and catechism.

Muslim students who go to Catholic schools take instead Islamic religious courses sponsored by their own Islamic community.

It should also be noted that school administrators go out of their way to reassure Muslim parents that Catholic schools do not try to “convert” students and that Christian proselytising is banned.

Muslim beauty pageant competes against Miss World

Women in bikinis are banned from the The Muslimah World contest.

A Muslim Beauty Contest
Sorry no bikinis . . . but we are having a Quran reading
contest and headscarf styling.

INDONESIA  -  The Miss World beauty contest, which has attracted fierce opposition by hardline Islamic groups in host country Indonesia, is now facing another challenge -- a rival pageant exclusively for Muslims.

The Muslimah World contest to be held on Wednesday in the Indonesian capital, Jakarta, is "Islam's answer to Miss World", the pageant's founder Eka Shanti said on Saturday.

"Muslimah World is a beauty pageant, but the requirements are very different from Miss World -- you have to be pious, be a positive role model and show how you balance a life of spirituality in today's modernised world," Shanti told AFP France 24 News.

The pageant is the latest backlash against Miss World, which has already dropped the bikini from its beach fashion round and has attracted more than a month of protests by Muslim hardliners demanding the show be scrapped.

Radicals have set effigies of the organisers alight and deemed the contest "smut" and "pornographic".

The 20 Muslimah World finalists were chosen from more than 500, who took part in online rounds, reciting Koranic verses and telling stories of how they came to wear the Islamic headscarf, a requirement for the pageant.

The finalists, from Iran, Malaysia, Brunei, Bangladesh, Nigeria and Indonesia, will parade Islamic fashions in what Shanti says is an opportunity to show young Muslim women they do not need to show their "immodest" parts -- including their hair and bare shoulders -- to be beautiful.

But Shanti said she did not support hardliners' calls to cancel the Miss World contest, acknowledging that Indonesia was a diverse country with many faiths.

"We don't just want to shout 'no' to Miss World. We'd rather show our children they have choices. Do you want to be like the women in Miss World? Or like those in Muslimah World?" Shanti said.

After repeated protests, government officials announced last week that the Miss World final would be moved from the outskirts of the capital Jakarta to the resort island of Bali, where the contest began last week with no opposition from the Hindu majority there.

The organisers, however, were not party to the decision and have said it would be "impossible" to make the last-minute change.

Despite the decision, protesters from the Islamic group Hizbut Tahrir Indonesia demonstrated in the central Java city of Yogyakarta Saturday, its spokeswoman saying "Miss World is not welcome in Indonesia at all".

The decision to move the final round was the latest victory for Islamic fringe groups, who are wielding increasing power and have succeeded in getting several events they deem un-Islamic changed or cancelled in recent years.

While back in the sane world
Let the Muslims have their contest.  The rest of us will enjoy the many pleasures of the

Muslim Beauty Contests - Women No, Goats Yes

Beauty is un-Islamic.
Indonesian Muslim clerics lash out at Miss World

Indonesia’s top Islamic authority lashed out Friday at the country’s decision to host the Miss World beauty pageant next month, saying that women exposing their bodies went against Muslim teaching.

The pageant is already facing opposition in Muslim-majority Indonesia, with radicals vowing to stage protests against the contest even after organisers agreed to drop the bikini round in a bid to avoid causing offence.

The Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) added its voice to the protests Friday, saying a top-level meeting of clerics earlier this month decided it did not want the pageant in the country reports Agence France-Presse.

“Exposing women’s bodies in public is ‘haram’, forbidden by Islamic teaching,” senior MUI official Muhyiddin Junaidi told reporters in the capital Jakarta.

“Even though the bikini event is being axed, the contestants will still wear tight dresses and expose parts of their body.”

The group also urged the country’s Muslims, more than 90 percent of the 240 million population, not to watch the pageant on television.

Last year, pop sensation Lady Gaga axed a concert after hardliners threatened to burn down the venue and criticised her for wearing only "a bra and panties".

More than 130 women will compete in Miss World, with some rounds on the resort island of Bali and the final in Bogor outside Jakarta. Bogor is in West Java province, parts of which are considered a stronghold for radicals.

Organisers revealed in June that the contestants would not wear bikinis during the beach fashion section, to be held in Bali, and would instead wear more conservative attire such as traditional sarongs.

U.S. students in “Moderate” Muslim Indonesia to learn about religious pluralism… Islamists promptly destroy country’s last Synagogue before they can visit it

It was perhaps the worst possible time for officials in Surabaya to host students from two US universities hoping to learn about pluralism and democracy.

Hours after the six students from Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, and the University of Michigan arrived on Friday evening, local media reported that one of Indonesia’s last remaining vestiges of its Jewish community had been reduced to a pile of rubble.

Beth Shalom in Surabaya, Java’s only synagogue, was demolished in May after being sealed off by Islamic hard-liners since 2009 reports the Jakarta Globe.

“I’m afraid there’s no right time to come to Indonesia to learn about pluralism because you can find bad examples of intolerant acts almost every day here,” Hendardi, the executive director of Setara Institute, a nongovernmental organization promoting tolerance and pluralism, said on Sunday.

Freddy Istanto, the director of the Surabaya Heritage Society (SHS), told the Jakarta Globe on Saturday that the synagogue had been destroyed, and it was uncertain when it was demolished and who did it.

“In mid-May, I was informed by a member of the SHS that the synagogue was destroyed. In disbelief, I went over there and it had been flattened.”

Freddy reported the case to the Surabaya City Council and prompted the commission to summon the Surabaya Tourism Agency, which was responsible for the heritage building,” Freddy said.

“It was designated as a heritage site by the agency on April 16, 2009. It should have been protected.”
