The Federal Department of Islamic Development (Jakim) urged Putrajaya in its Friday sermon to consider internet censorship to stop attacks against Islam.

The sermon stated that given the challenges posed by anti-Islam groups through information technology, it was important that the Muslim community used whatever reasonable strategy available including social media to counter, answer and ward off the propaganda of the enemies of Islam.

“Muslims must be kept updated on current developments so that we get accurate information and not be influenced by enemy propaganda" reports the Malaysian Digest.

“You all can also use new media such as YouTube, Twitter and blogs as mediums to send out the right message and spread the teachings of Islam."

“While Muslims are working at strengthening the economy and the Malay race, the enemies have not slackened for a minute to run their mission to destroy Islam by using whatever strategy possible, including cyber troopers,” said Jakim in the sermon.

The Islamic body said it was required of Muslims to identify the agenda designed to erode the sanctity of Islam and to also identify those who attempted to do so.

Jakim warned that the international line of thinking, such as liberalism and pluralism, seems to be spreading fast via the internet and influencing the younger generation.

“They are launching calculated attacks by spreading news which insults Islam through the use of symbols and in social media such as Facebook and Twitter.

"From our observations, many symbols and hundreds of websites on the internet are being used to confuse and weaken those of the Islamic faith."

 

Jakim also warned that the use of websites to weaken the faith of Muslims was the cunning strategy of the enemies of Islam that had succeeded in bringing down a few countries in the Middle East.

 

Last week, Islamic NGO Pertubuhan Martabat Jalinan Muhibbah Malaysia lodged a police report against a Facebook account owner for allegedly insulting Islam.

 

Its chairman Abdul Rani Kulup Abdullah had said the report was lodged against the account owner, who used the name Adlin Abd Jalil, for displaying a picture of a grilled pig with the words "Allah" and "Muhammad", as well as the Jakim's halal logo on it on the posting.

 

In his police report, Abdul Rani urged the Home Ministry, Jakim and the Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission to look into the matter and take stern action against the account owner.

Can a chain with a cross be a reason for dismissal from one's office? Apparently so, if you live in Norway and are a staff member of NRK, a state TV-and-radio broadcasting company, reports La Republica. Siv Kristin Saellmann—a popular TV news anchorwoman in Norway—was suspended from her job for appearing on the air with a Cross (1.4 centimetres long) on her necklace.

Some viewers - mainly members of a local Muslim community - protested against this, claiming that "a necklace with a Cross insults Islam" and "this symbol does not guarantee impartiality of the TV channel".

The journalist, one of the best known and the most popular on the Norwegian public television, was suspended and prohibited from hosting her programs, "lest she should be a source of discord and crimes," reports Pravoslavie News.

This case, as the newspaper notes, is similar to the story of Nadia Eweida, a Christian employee of British Airways, who after seven years won her legal battle. The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) recognized that the lady had been discriminated against.

In January 2013, the ECHR passed a judgment on the cases of four Christians from Great Britain. These dealt with violation of the article 9 of the European Convention for Protection of Human Rights, according to which, every person has a right to the free expression of his/her own opinion, to freedom of conscience and religion.

The court satisfied the claim of the former employee of the British Airways Nadia Eweida, who had been ousted for wearing a cross, and compelled British Airways to pay her 32,000 euros as compensation. But three other claims were rejected.

The court ruled that the Devon and Exeter NHS Trust Hospital was right when it demanded the nurse Shirley Chaplin to take off her cross as it "posed a risk to safety and hygiene". The plaintiff herself asserted that she had lost her job following the refusal to remove her cross.

The ECHR did not satisfy the claims of Gary McFarlane and Lillian Ladele either. Gary McFarlane, a Christian, and a therapist from Bristol, refused to give counsel to homosexual couples regarding sexual relations. He was fired for that. Lillian Ladele, a registrar for the London borough of Islington, was subjected to a disciplinary punishment for refusing to register same-sex civil unions.

Police State  -   Amazing.  The Russians had the gall to claim that they had only "lost" the singer of Pussy Riot for nearly a month while she was being transported to a Siberian Gulag.

Now the jailed Pussy Riot member Nadezhda Tolokonnikova has been located. Contrary to reports Wednesday that she's at a new prison in Siberia, her husband, Peter Verzilov, confirmed to Rolling Stone that she's at a hospital in the Siberian region of Krasnoyarsk.

He spoke to the jailed activist on Thursday after doctors at the hospital called him from Krasnoyarsk’s Tuberculosis Hospital No. 1, a large medical facility. Russia’s prison service also formally informed him of his wife’s location.

"She was in good condition. She said her conditions were OK," Verzilov said by phone. "She's not sick right now, she’s just having procedures and tests related to the hunger strike." Verzilov added that conditions at the hospital were satisfactory. Although the facility does treat tuberculosis, it functions as an ordinary hospital reports Rolling Stone.

 

The activist had been missing for 24 days, after she was abruptly moved from a camp in Mordovia, where she had been serving her sentence. She told Verzilov that during the time of her disappearance, she had been kept from having conatct with the outside world throughout her three-week transfer across Russia.

 

"She said conditions and treatment were OK, but that the one thing was she was in very strict isolation," he said.

 

It's not yet clear where the activist will serve the rest of her sentence. Verzilov said that a source in the prison service had told him Tolokonnikova may serve her full-sentence at the hospital in Krasnoyarsk. Her defense team had believed she would be moved to a camp in Nizhny Ignash, 150 miles from Krasnoyarsk, but he said that this was no longer certain.

 

Nadezhda Tolokonnikova is currently serving a two-year sentence for "premeditated hooliganism" in conjunction with Pussy Riot performances.

The Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) has once again stirred up controversy over the fact that Islam is not taught in the country’s Catholic schools.

The latest case involves a Catholic school of Klanten in Central Java. Last year, the same thing was front-page news for weeks in Blitar (East Java Regency) and Tegal until Muslim parents came out in defence of the Catholic schools where their children study, emphasising their high level of education.

Hartoyo, the MUI leader in Klanten, urged all private schools, including Catholic ones, to hire qualified staff to teach the Islamic religion to Muslim students. In his view, the absence of Islamic religious teachers is a grave violation of the law because every student should be able to receive lessons in his or her religion reports Asia News.

The local association of private schools (BMPS) agrees. Slamming the lack of Muslim teachers, it demanded that a solution be found and the problem solved “in the best possible way.”

In reality, following a decades-old practice, Indonesia’s private Christian schools, including Catholic ones, are not required to offer courses on Islamic religion or time off to read the Quran, as is the case in state schools. They do however provide seminars and lectures on the Christian religion and catechism.

Muslim students who go to Catholic schools take instead Islamic religious courses sponsored by their own Islamic community.

It should also be noted that school administrators go out of their way to reassure Muslim parents that Catholic schools do not try to “convert” students and that Christian proselytising is banned.

SHOCK - Feds convict author for writing a book



The End of Free Speech?

• A Federal Court convicted an author of making "false claims" in a book about how to lose weight.  (Like that has never happened before.)
• The Feds required that the author post a $2 million bond before engaging in future infomercial advertising to sell books.

The Truth Police  -  First let me say that when I see a Kevin Trudeau infomercial on TV, my first reaction is to get a firm grip on my wallet.

But that being said, since when have the Feds and their courts become the "Truth Police" to judge the honesty of the written word of books for sale?  And if the government says they do not believe the contents of your book then you can be put in prison.

No one is forced to buy a book.  It is a free transaction between free men.  Yes there are suckers born every minute.  But if people want to freely spend their own money on books about dieting, turkey farming or alien abductions, it is not the business of Big Brother government to put the authors of those books in jail.

In this case the jurors took less than an hour to find TV pitchman Kevin Trudeau guilty of criminal contempt.

Trudeau was accused of violating a judge's 2004 order barring him from making false claims about his best-selling book, "The Weight Loss Cure They Don't Want You to Know About."

Never mind that there are 10,000 diet books out there all contradicting each other.

The 50-year-old showed little emotion when he was convicted Tuesday in federal court in Chicago. He could face years in prison reports CBS News.

The core dispute revolved around dramatic claims in Trudeau's TV infomercials, including that people who followed the diet in the book could eventually eat anything they wanted without gaining weight.

Prosecutor Marc Krickbaum said Trudeau knew such claims contradicted his book, but he lied to sell more books.

Trudeau's lawyer had argued that prosecutors failed to prove their case.

Concern for jailed Pussy Riot member Nadezhda Tolokonnikova mounted on her 24th birthday Thursday, after her husband said she could not be found in the Russian prison colony where authorities reportedly sent her in October.

Tolokonnikova has not been seen since being moved on October 22 after protesting alleged prison abuses at her former colony in central Russia and holding a hunger strike.

Tolokonnikova is one of two Pussy Riot members now serving two-year prison terms for performing a protest "punk prayer" in Moscow's Christ the Saviour Cathedral in the run-up to presidential elections last year reports AFP News.

She and fellow bandmember Maria Alyokhina are due for release in March.

Russia's human rights ombudsman said this week that Tolokonnikova was being transferred and was safe. Her husband Pyotr Verzilov believed that she was on her way to a new colony in Siberia.

However having made the trek to the snow-covered Krasnoyarsk region, Verzilov said on Thursday that his wife was not there.

"The authorities of the colony in the taiga (region) told us that they don't have Tolokonnikova and don't know when she will arrive. 19 days without contact with Nadya," he wrote on Twitter.

"Snow, snow, snow, minus 20 degrees (Celsius) and camps where somewhere they are hiding Nadya," he wrote, posting pictures near the colony where Tolokonnikova was said to be headed.

The search in Siberia went on as Tolokonnikova's lawyers submitted legal documents contesting her verdict and sentence made by the Khamovnichesky court in Moscow.

"We are demanding the verdict be annulled," lawyer Irina Khrunova told AFP. She added that her client's transfer could "last a long time" since Russian law does not set any limits on how long its could take.

The conviction and sentencing of Tolokonnikova and Alyokhina on charges of hooliganism sparked an international outcry.

After being jailed, Tolokonnikova penned a letter published in Russian media listing alleged abuses in her old prison colony, including round-the-clock "slave labor" work, beatings, and lack of sanitary facilities.

She went on a hunger strike in protest, ending it only after having health problems and being placed on a drip in the prison hospital.

After that she was transferred, with officials giving no details of her destination.

Her husband, though, said he received information from a reliable source that she was moved to penal colony number 50 in the town of Nizhny Ingash, in Siberia.

Calling for action in Tolokonnikova's case, Amnesty International said this week that "there are serious concerns regarding her safety and wellbeing".

"There are no legal limitations as to how long a prisoner can be in transit," the rights organisation said, calling Tolokonnikova a prisoner of conscience. "The lengthy transit could be a means of pressure and de facto punishment for her recent open letter."

Prison authorities are not required to tell relatives of the convicts' whereabouts until 10 days after transferring them to a new place.

A group of Tolokonnikova's supporters staged fireworks for her birthday near the headquarters of the prison service in Moscow in the early hours of Thursday.

Pussy Riot is a Russian feminist punk rock protest group based in Moscow.  Their lyrical themes include feminism, LGBT rights, opposition to the policies of Russian President Vladimir Putin, whom they regard as a dictator, and links between the leadership of the Russian Orthodox Church and Putin.

Two of the group members, Nadezhda Tolokonnikova and Maria Alyokhina, were arrested and charged with hooliganism.  They were convicted of “hooliganism motivated by religious hatred”, and each was sentenced to two years imprisonment. Two other members of the group left Russia fearing prosecution.

The case was adopted by human rights groups including Amnesty International, which designated the women prisoners of conscience, and by a wide range of musicians including Madonna, Courtney Love, Sting, and Yoko Ono. Public opinion in Russia was generally less sympathetic towards the women.

British authorities claimed the domestic partner of reporter Glenn Greenwald was involved in "terrorism" when he tried to carry documents from former U.S. intelligence contractor Edward Snowden through a London airport in August, according to police and intelligence documents.

Greenwald's partner, David Miranda, was detained and questioned for nine hours by British authorities at Heathrow on August 18, when he landed there from Berlin to change planes for a flight to Rio De Janeiro, Brazil.

After his release and return to Rio, Miranda filed a legal action against the British government, seeking the return of materials seized from him by British authorities and a judicial review of the legality of his detention reports Reuters News.

At a London court hearing this week for Miranda's lawsuit, a document called a "Ports Circulation Sheet" was read into the record. It was prepared by Scotland Yard - in consultation with the MI5 counterintelligence agency - and circulated to British border posts before Miranda's arrival. The precise date of the document is unclear.

"Intelligence indicates that Miranda is likely to be involved in espionage activity which has the potential to act against the interests of UK national security," according to the document.

"We assess that Miranda is knowingly carrying material the release of which would endanger people's lives," the document continued. "Additionally the disclosure, or threat of disclosure, is designed to influence a government and is made for the purpose of promoting a political or ideological cause. This therefore falls within the definition of terrorism..."

Miranda was not charged with any offense, although British authorities said in August they had opened a criminal investigation after initially examining materials they seized from him. They did not spell out the probe's objectives.

British authorities have said in court that items seized from Miranda included electronic media containing 58,000 documents from the U.S. National Security Agency and its British counterpart, Government Communications Headquarters (GCHQ).

Greenwald, who previously worked for Britain's Guardian newspaper, has acknowledged that Miranda was carrying material supplied by Snowden when he was detained.

In an email to Reuters, Greenwald condemned the British government for labeling his partner's actions "terrorism."

"For all the lecturing it doles out to the world about press freedoms, the UK offers virtually none...They are absolutely and explicitly equating terrorism with journalism," he said.

Soldiers attending a pre-deployment briefing at Fort Hood say they were told that evangelical Christians and members of the Tea Party were a threat to the nation and that any soldier donating to those groups would be subjected to punishment under the Uniform Code of Military Justice.

A soldier who attended the Oct. 17th briefing told me the counter-intelligence agent in charge of the meeting spent nearly a half hour discussing how evangelical Christians and groups like the American Family Association were “tearing the country apart.”

Michael Berry, an attorney with the Liberty Institute, is advising the soldier and has launched an investigation into the incident reports Fox News.

“The American public should be outraged that the U.S. Army is teaching our troops that evangelical Christians and Tea Party members are enemies of America, and that they can be punished for supporting or participating in those groups,” said Berry, a former Marine Corps JAG officer.

“These statements about evangelicals being domestic enemies are a serious charge.”

The soldier told me he fears reprisals and asked not to be identified. He said there was a blanket statement that donating to any groups that were considered a threat to the military and government was punishable under military regulations.

“My first concern was if I was going to be in trouble going to church,” the evangelical Christian soldier told me. “Can I tithe? Can I donate to Christian charities? What if I donate to a politician who is a part of the Tea Party movement?”

Another soldier who attended the briefing alerted the Chaplain Alliance for Religious Liberty. That individual’s recollections of the briefing matched the soldier who reached out to me.

“I was very shocked and couldn’t believe what I was hearing,” the soldier said. “I felt like my religious liberties, that I risk my life and sacrifice time away from family to fight for, were being taken away.”

And while a large portion of the briefing dealt with the threat evangelicals and the Tea Party pose to the nation, barely a word was said about Islamic extremism, the soldier said.

“Our community is still healing from the act of terrorism brought on by Nidal Hasan – who really is a terrorist,” the soldier said. “This is a slap in the face. “The military is supposed to defend freedom and to classify the vast majority of the military that claim to be Christian as terrorists is sick.”

We have seen American veterans with honor simply wanting to visit their public memorials. 

Standing in their way are power hungry assholes, and their brainless lackeys, who are more than willing to slap down a 95 year old man in a wheelchair in order to advance a sick political agenda.

On Sunday, those with honor protested at the barricades placed at memorials around Washington D.C. by the vindictive Obama administration.  The veterans removed the barricades and proceeded to take them to the White House.  Multiple people tweeted photos of the barricades being removed and taken to the White House for Presidential inspection:
