Government gets around the Bill of Rights by having so-called "private" companies spy on their customers for them.
The C.I.A. is paying AT&T more than $10 million a year to assist with overseas counterterrorism investigations by exploiting the company’s vast database of phone records, which includes Americans’ international calls, according to government officials.
The cooperation is conducted under a voluntary contract, not under subpoenas or court orders compelling the company to participate, according to the officials. The C.I.A. supplies phone numbers of overseas terrorism suspects, and AT&T searches its database and provides records of calls that may help identify foreign associates, the officials said.
The company has a huge archive of data on phone calls, both foreign and domestic, that were handled by its network equipment, not just those of its own customers reports the New York Times.
The program adds a new dimension to the debate over government spying and the privacy of communications records, which has been focused on National Security Agency programs in recent months.
The disclosure sheds further light on the ties between intelligence officials and communications service providers. And it shows how agencies beyond the N.S.A. use metadata — logs of the date, duration and phone numbers involved in a call, but not the content — to analyze links between people through programs regulated by an inconsistent patchwork of legal standards, procedures and oversight.
Because the C.I.A. is prohibited from spying on the domestic activities of Americans, the agency imposes privacy safeguards on the program, said the officials, speaking on the condition of anonymity because it is classified.
Most of the call logs provided by AT&T involve foreign-to-foreign calls, but when the company produces records of international calls with one end in the United States, it does not disclose the identity of the Americans and “masks” several digits of their phone numbers, the officials said.
Still, the agency can refer such masked numbers to the F.B.I., which can issue an administrative subpoena requiring AT&T to provide the uncensored data. The bureau handles any domestic investigation, but sometimes shares with the C.I.A. the information about the American participant in those calls, the officials said.
Dean Boyd, a spokesman for the C.I.A., declined to confirm the program.
CIA owned In-Q-Tel made a “strategic investment” in the software company collecting Obamacare data
Welcome to 1984 - A software company funded by the Central Intelligence Agency is managing data on Healthcare.gov, the Obamacare insurance exchange website.
Through a press release, Socrata announced a “strategic investment and technology development agreement with In-Q-Tel (IQT), the independent strategic investment firm that identifies innovative technology solutions to support the missions of the U.S. Intelligence Community,” reports Infowars News.
“Under the agreement, IQT will make a strategic investment in Socrata,” the press release states. “The two entities will work together to further develop Socrata’s data consumerization platform for internal business analysts in data-rich organizations.”
“Users of Socrata’s technologies can transform raw data from multiple sources into more sophisticated and useful resources.”
In other words, Socrata will work with the CIA and other intelligence agencies to transform raw data into a format easily utilized and accessible to the intelligence community.
The CIA’s interest in Socrata is crystal clear considering that the Department of Health and Human Services is establishing a centralized Federal Data Services Hub, a comprehensive database of Americans’ private information made available to multiple federal entities.
Healthcare.gov captures the personal data provided during the Obamacare enrollment process for this spy grid database.

'Obama plotted to support the ruling Muslim Brotherhood
amid unprecedented unrest.'
The United States was said to have planned to destabilize at least two Arab countries over the last two years.
A former leading U.S. military commander asserted that the regime of Comrade Barack Obama worked to destabilize the governments of Bahrain and Egypt.
Retired General Hugh Shelton, former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said the administration’s drive against Bahrain, wracked by a Shi’ite revolt, was led by the intelligence community.
“America thought Bahrain was an easy prey that will serve as key to the collapse of the GCC [Gulf Cooperation Council] regime and lead to giant oil companies controlling oil in the Gulf,” Shelton said reports the World Tribune.
In an interview on Fox News, Shelton said the administration plot was foiled by Bahraini King Hamad in 2011. He said Hamad agreed to a Saudi-sponsored decision by the GCC to send thousands of troops to Bahrain to help quell the Shi’ite revolt, attributed to Iran.
Shelton, who met Hamad during his assignment to the U.S. Navy Fifth Fleet, based in Manama, said the administration plot harmed relations with both Bahrain as well as neighboring Saudi Arabia. He said Riyad ended any trust in Washington after it was found to have helped the Shi’ites in Bahrain.
The former Joint Chiefs chairman, who served under President Bill Clinton and President George W. Bush, said Egypt stopped a drive by Obama to destabilize their country in 2013. Shelton said Egyptian Defense Minister Abdul Fatah Sisi, a former intelligence chief, also detected a U.S. plot to support the ruling Muslim Brotherhood amid unprecedented unrest.
On July 3, Sisi led a coup that overthrew Egypt’s first Islamist president, Mohammed Morsi.
“Had Gen. Al Sisi not deposed Morsi, Egypt would have today become another Syria and its military would have been destroyed,” Shelton said. Shelton, who did not disclose his sources of information, said Arab allies of the United States have moved away from Washington. He cited the new alliance between Egypt, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates against the Brotherhood.
“I expect calm to be restored in Egypt,” Shelton said. “Gen. Al Sisi has put an end to the new Middle East project.”
The bi-partisan war began without a vote of Congress.
By Gary;
I for one am sickened by the insanity of the yellow journalism media and corrupt political Elites of both parties that are beating the drums of Syrian war.
DEATH - KILL - DEATH - KILL in an endless 24-7 loop.
Please note that none of the "Elites" are quitting their day jobs to volunteer to be in the front lines, nor are they marching their kids off to the nearest Marine Corps recruiting office. But they are very brave with the lives of those who did sign up.
An Unconstitutional war
An unconstitutional U.S. directed war against Syria has been going on for months. Now the Washington Post has grasped the fact and reports that the CIA has begun delivering weapons to rebels in Syria. The shipments began streaming into the country over the past two weeks.
Wrong. THE FEDERALIST blog has been documenting over and over stories from mostly overseas media about the American CIA directed war using Islamist Turkey and Islamist Saudi Arabia as cover.
The bullshit is both the GOP and Democrats know full well they are making an unconstitutional war and have tried hard to hide it from the American people.
Burning the Constitution in order to become Al-Qaeda's air force.
One example, Senator Bob Corker (R-Tenn.), who has pressed the Obama administration to do more to help the rebels, said he felt embarrassed when he met with Syrians along the Turkish border three weeks ago.
“It was humiliating,” he said in an interview Wednesday night. “The president had announced that we would be providing lethal aid, and not a drop of it had begun. They were very short on ammunition, and the weapons had not begun to flow.”
Yes, both parties are God Damn fucking liars. . They know the CIA war has been going on all along and refuse to talk about it.
Russia
The lurid and vicious attacks on Russia by both the Left and the Right are disturbing to say the least.
Suddenly I understand August,1914 and how the world bumbled its way into the mass slaughter and revolutions of the World War I era.
Russia has done nothing but try to defend Syria which as been their ally since 1971. Russia has neither fired at the U.S. or attacked any Middle Eastern nation. But the chattering political hacks and their ratings driven media lackeys have built up the "threat" from Russia as something close to the source of all evil.
Sure Putin is an authoritarian. But so what? Russia has been ruled by authoritarian Czars for centuries. Nothing has changed.
I have seen a number of moron talking heads trash Russia as some "weak" nation that can be pushed aside so the U.S. can have its way in the world. This is nonsensical baby talk. Russia has a very strong military and enough atomic weapons to end life on earth. But facts just get in the way of generating TV ratings.
But the idiots who pass as "leaders" could care less. After all, another war is good for business.
Russian ships head to Mediterranean The Russians have had a naval base in Tartus, Syria since 1971. But the warmonger fire-breathers ignore this and want to play their war games in Syria as if the Russians did not exist and have no right to have allies in the world.
37,000,000 Casualties Later. One shooting helped set off World War I. The assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria took place in the ethnic and religious powder keg of the Balkans. Like Syria, the Balkans is an area of many groups who all hate each other. A single killing of an Austrian set off a chain of events slaughtering entire nations. . The total number of military and civilian casualties in World War I was over 37 million.
Western nations sell chemical and conventional weapons. Then the West pretends to be "horrified" that the weapons they sold were actually used to kill people.
Now with people being killed the West claims they need to intervene and stop the use of the weapons they sold.
The Military-Industrial Complex is the only winner in war.
British companies sold chemicals to Syria that could have been used to produce the deadly nerve agent that killed 1,400 people, The UK Mail revealed.
Between July 2004 and May 2010 the Government issued five export licences to two companies, allowing them to sell Syria sodium fluoride, which is used to make sarin.
The Government last night admitted for the first time that the chemical was delivered to Syria – a clear breach of international protocol on the trade of dangerous substances that has been condemned as ‘grossly irresponsible’ reports the UK Daily Mail.
The sales were made at a time when President Bashar Assad was strongly suspected to be stockpiling the chemical weapons that have caused an international crisis. . The UK firms delivered sodium fluoride to a Syrian cosmetics company for what they claim were legitimate purposes. But intelligence experts believe President Assad’s regime uses such companies to divert chemicals into its weapons program.
Thomas Docherty MP, a member of the Commons Arms Export Controls Committee, said: ‘These are very disturbing revelations uncovered by The Mail on Sunday regarding the provision of sodium fluoride to Syria. At no time should we have allowed President Assad’s regime to get its hands on this substance.
‘Previously we thought that while export licences had been granted, no chemicals were actually delivered. Now we know that in the build-up to the Syrian civil war, UK companies – with the backing of our Government – were supplying this potentially lethal substance.
‘While the last export licence was issued in May 2010, these licences are obtained prior to manufacture and the industry standard is for four to five months to pass before the chemicals are delivered. . 'So we are looking at late 2010 for the British supplies of sodium fluoride reaching Syria. The Government has some very serious questions to answer.’
Last week it was revealed that the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) had granted export licences in 2012 – but they were not used to send sodium fluoride to Syria. . The European Union subsequently banned exports outright.

The West had no problem with Iraq gassing Iran
In 1980 the U.S. Defense Intelligence Agency filed a report stating that Iraq had been actively acquiring chemical weapons capacities for several years, which later proved to be accurate.
.
In November 1980, two months into the Iran–Iraq War, the first reported use of chemical weapons took place when Tehran radio reported a poison gas attack on Susangerd by Iraqi forces. The United Nations reported many similar attacks occurred the following year, leading Iran to develop and deploy a mustard gas capability.
.
By 1984, Iraq was using poison gas with great effectiveness against Iranian "human wave" attacks. Chemical weapons were used extensively against Iran during the Iran–Iraq War. On January 14, 1991, the Defense Intelligence Agency said an Iraqi agent described, in medically accurate terms, military smallpox casualties he said he saw in 1985 or 1986.
.
Two weeks later, the Armed Forces Medical Intelligence Center reported that eight of 69 Iraqi prisoners of war whose blood was tested showed a current immunity to smallpox, which had not occurred naturally in Iraq since 1971; the same prisoners had also been inoculated for anthrax. The assumption being that Iraq used both smallpox and anthrax during this war.
.
The Washington Post reported that in 1984 the CIA secretly started providing intelligence to the Iraqi army during the Iran-Iraq War. This included information to target chemical weapons strikes.
.
The same year it was confirmed beyond doubt by European doctors and UN expert missions that Iraq was employing chemical weapons against the Iranians. Most of these occurred during the Iran–Iraq War, but WMDs were used at least once to crush the popular uprisings against Kurds in 1991.
.
Chemical weapons were used extensively, with more than 100,000 Iranian soldiers as victims of Saddam Hussein's chemical weapons during the eight-year war with Iraq.
"The President is to be commander-in-chief of the army and navy of the United States. . . . It would amount to nothing more than the supreme command and direction of the military and naval forces, as first General and Admiral of the Confederacy; while that of the British king extends to the declaring of war and the raising and regulating of fleets and armies, -- all of which by the Constitution under consideration, would appertain to the legislature."
Alexander Hamilton
(The Federalist Papers, 69, 1788.)
By Gary;
Syria is not some BS Democrat vs. Republican issue. The debate for war cuts across party lines and comes down to Authoritarianism vs. Constitutional Federalism.
Alexander Hamilton had it right. No one man should be able to send a nation to war against another nation that has not even threatened to attack the U.S. Congress has that power.
The rapid spread of news and ideas through a free Internet Media forced a vote in the British Parliament that defeated war.
The British defeat caused the war plans of the bipartisan Washington Elite to be thrown off balance, and forced Obama to seek Congressional approval. The Elites are not used to the Internet Media that can point out the BS and lies of both government and their lap-dog establishment media.
In many ways it will be a phony debate. Congress has pretended for a long time now that the CIA was not active in funding and arming the Syrian rebels. We have already been at war using Islamic Turkey, Jordan, Saudi Arabia and the Gulf States as front men.
What the debate is really about is should the U.S. go in the deep end of the pool or stay in the shallow end and go on pretending we are not supporting the rebels.
Syrian Rebels. The bipartisan Washington Elites have already been running an unconstitutional war in Syria through the CIA. A vote by Congress only gives the Elites legal cover to expand their actions.
Warmongers line up to back Obama The wars in Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya and Yemen were not enough. Now the Washington Elites want to go into Syria.
Retired Army Gen. David Petraeus, former CIA director, called strongly Saturday for Congress to back the White House on Syria, declaring that military action against the regime is “necessary” to deter “Iran, North Korea and other would-be aggressors.”
“Failure of Congress to approve the president’s request would have serious ramifications not just in the Mideast but around the world,” Petraeus said in a four-sentence statement provided to Politico.
Nancy Pelosi - “It is in our national interest to respond to the Syrian government’s unspeakable use of chemical weapons."
John McCain - “I think it would be a very serious situation where we are now 535 commanders in chief. Look, the president of the United States is the only commander.”
Eric Cantor - “There are no easy solutions and a one-off military strike is not by itself an adequate strategy, but I am convinced that the risks of inaction outweigh the risks of a limited intervention."
Peter King - Presidents from both parties have not hesitated to take quick and effective military action when they believed it was essential to our national interest. And they did it without seeking prior approval from Congress. These presidents acted pursuant to their constitutional and statutory powers as commander-in-chief. They knew that for America's security and credibility, we cannot have 535 commanders-in-chief.
Pat Buchanan Syria Is Dress Rehearsal For War With Iran
Syrian rebels trained and armed by the CIA are on the march.
This was all planned long ago by both parties.
Liars, whores and thieves - The bipartisan liars in the White House and Congress are trying hard to close ranks in public and push through greater support for their private CIA backed war in Syria.
The fact of the matter is Western nations have been backing an unconstitutional war with Syria for a long time. Now the Elites are trying to take their war to the next level and remove the secular pro-Russian government that has been protecting the nation's Christians. It does not appear to enter into any one's minds what happens to the Christians when the Islamists march in.
"The use of these weapons has to be responded to and only the United States has the capability and capacity to stop Assad and to warn others around the world that this type of behavior is not going to be tolerated," said GOP Speaker John Boehner after meeting with Comrade Obama. "I appreciate the president reaching out to me and my colleagues in the Congress over the last couple of weeks . . . This is something that the United States as a country needs to do. I'm going to support the president's call for action."
Meanwhile the first cell of Syrian rebels trained and armed by the CIA is making its way to the battlefield, President Barack Obama has reportedly told senators.
During a meeting at the White House, the president assured Senator John McCain that after months of delay the US was meeting its commitment to back moderate elements of the opposition.
Comrade Obama said that a 50-man cell, believed to have been trained by US special forces in Jordan, was making its way across the border into Syria, according to the New York Timesreports the UK Telegraph.
Obama had announced in June that the US would begin providing the opposition with small arms.
Thank You CIA For months before the "gas attack" the United States had already coordinated a massive airlift of arms to Syrian rebels from Croatia with the help of Britain and other European states. Recently posted videos showing some of the Croat weapons in the hands of the Jihadist group Ahrar al-Sham.
"An intelligence service is the ideal vehicle for a conspiracy." Allen Dulles Director, CIA (1953 - 1961)
A Croat newspaper claimed 3,000 tons of weapons dating back to the former Yugoslavia have been sent in 75 planeloads from Zagreb airport to the rebels, largely via Jordan since November.
The story confirmed the origins of ex-Yugoslav weapons seen in growing numbers in rebel hands in online videos, as described last month by The Daily Telegraph and other newspapers, but suggests far bigger quantities than previously suspected.
The shipments were allegedly paid for by Islamist Saudi Arabia at the bidding of the United States, with assistance on supplying the weapons organised through Turkey and Jordan, Syria's neighbours.
But the report added that as well as from Croatia, weapons came "from several other European countries including Britain", without specifying if they were British-supplied or British-procured arms reports the UK Telegraph.
. British military advisers however are known to be operating in countries bordering Syria alongside French and Americans, offering training to rebel leaders and former Syrian army officers. The Americans are also believed to be providing training on securing chemical weapons sites inside Syria.
The story in the Jutarnji List newspaper gave the fullest details yet of the arms shipments which have enabled rebel forces to begin advancing across the north of Syria in recent weeks, after months of stalemate.
The weapons, including rocket launchers, recoil-less guns and the M79 anti-tank weapon, have been seen in rebel hands in numerous videos, and were first spotted by an arms expert Eliot Higgins, who blogs under the name Brown Moses. He traced them moving from Dera'a in the south, near the Jordanian border, to Aleppo and Idlib provinces in the north.

Facebook received about 26,000 government requests for information about 38,000 users in the first six months of 2013, with half of the orders coming from the United States government.
The social networking service published the numbers on Monday, following the release of customer information data requests from Microsoft and Google. Facebook said government agents from 74 countries demanded information about its users, but the vast majority of these requests came from the US, the Associated Press reported.
Classified documents leaked to the Guardian newspaper recently revealed that the National Security Agency (NSA) paid millions of dollars to keep tech companies – including Facebook – cooperating with the US government reports RT News.
US federal law allows the government to demand Facebook data without a warrant, and companies must fight such requests in secret court hearings if they deny them.
Facebook provided user data in response to about 60 percent of such requests, AP reports. And out of all US government information requests, the social networking service released some data about 79 percent of the user accounts in question.
But because the US government prohibits companies from releasing exact numbers on how often they have been forced to turn over information, Facebook has been unable to specify exactly how many of the 38,000 user information requests came from the US. Facebook has announced the exact number of requests for all other countries, but simply provided a number range for the US.
Worldwide, police and intelligence agencies have turned to Facebook to request information about government and law enforcement targets, such as activists who staged anti-government protests in Turkey.
Facebook received 96 information requests for 173 Facebook users from the Turkish government in the first half of this year, but initially denied allegations that it released information about protesters. Now, the social media giant admits that it provided some information about 45 of these users.
“We fight many of these requests, pushing back when we find legal deficiencies and narrowing the scope of overly broad or vague requests,” Colin Stretch, Facebook’s general counsel company, said in a blog post. “When we are required to comply with a particular request, we frequently share only basic user information, such as name.”
Overall, the six countries who submitted requests for information on over 1,000 users are the US, France, Italy, India, Germany and the UK. Russia, the largest country in the world, only submitted one data request for user information throughout the six-month period.
Facebook told AP that it plans to regularly release data on user information requests it receives from government agencies.
Assange: Facebook, Google, Yahoo spying tools for US intelligence
Funny, I can't remember Congress declaring war on Syria
"We the People . . . " has no meaning in this "modern" United States. Neither the political hacks in Congress, the strongman President-of-the-moment nor, it appears, the people themselves give a crap about the Constitution.
Congress has abdicated their Constitutional power to declare war because they are too frightened, spineless and ball-less to take a vote. So off to war we go with Syria after two unconstitutional wars in Libya and Yemen.
Muslim Guerrilla fighters trained by the CIA began moving towards Damascus in mid-August, French newspaper Le Figaro reported on Thursday.
The rebels were trained for several months in a training camp on the Jordanian-Syrian border by CIA operatives, as well as Jordanian and Israeli commandos, the paper said.
The first group of 300 handpicked Free Syrian Army soldiers crossed the border on August 17 into the Deraa region, and a second group was deployed on August 19, says the Jerusalem Post.
The paper quoted a researcher at the French Institute for Strategic Analysis as saying the trained rebels group was passing through Ghouta, on their way to Damascus.
In June, the Los Angeles Times reported that CIA operatives and American special operations units have been training Free Syrian Army soldiers with anti-tank and anti-aircraft weapons since late 2012.
The newspaper reported that the training took place at covert bases in Jordan and Turkey.
So far, the Obama administration has been hesitant to sanction large-scale military aid to the rebels for fear that the arms could end up in the hands of radical Islamists currently fighting in the Assad regime.
Washington has been urged by lawmakers at home and critics abroad to increase involvement in the Syrian conflict, which has claimed the lives of tens of thousands in the last two years.
The United States has left about 700 US combat-equipped troops in Jordan after a training exercise there, at the request of the Jordanian government, Obama said on Friday.
"This detachment that participated in the exercise and remained in Jordan includes Patriot missile systems, fighter aircraft, and related support, command, control, and communications personnel and systems," Obama said.

Jordan wargames: 4,500 U.S. troops near Syrian border. Patriot batteries, F-16s launch military exercise 'Eager Lion'
Multinational military exercise ‘Eager Lion’ has been launched in Jordan amid condemnation from neighboring Syria and its ally Russia. The US brings Patriot missile batteries to the Syrian border, which could remain deployed afterwards.
The exercises will last for 12 days, bringing together about 8,000 personnel from 19 countries, mostly Arabic, but also including the US and Europe. The maneuvers will also involve some 3,000 Jordanian and 500 British troops.

Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel approved Jordan’s request to keep the Patriots and F-16s in country after the exercise, Pentagon spokesman George Little said.
From day one I thought Comrade Obama's closing of the US embassies around the world was pure BS to help protect the unconstitutional spying programs. Now the truth is leaking out. . . . not that anyone cares.
A high-ranking Yemeni security official has told McClatchy News that the Obama administration’s recently announced terror threat which supposedly targeted US embassies had “no basis in fact” and was manufactured merely to dampen opposition to drone strikes.
This should be nothing new to followers of The Federalist blog.
After initially warning of a terror plot “thought to have been one of the most serious against American and other Western interests since the September 11 attacks,” the US closed 20 embassies and consulates earlier this month, 18 of which reopened Sunday.
The announcement of the threat occurred as it was simultaneously acknowledged that the attack on the US consulate in Benghazi last year was linked to a clandestine CIA arms smuggling operation based in the Libyan city that was being used to transport arms to rebels in Syria, many of whom are allied with Al-Qaeda militants.
CIA Wants To Expand Drone Strikes In Yemen
US hits Yemen with three drone strikes in a day
The announcement of the threat against US embassies also served to justify blanket NSA surveillance, leading some to suggest that the alleged plot was being hyped to distract from the Edward Snowden scandal. It was later claimed that the NSA had intercepted a “conference call” of Al-Qaeda members during which militants discussed an attack reports Infowars News.
However, in a report entitled U.S. embassies in Muslim world reopen amid still-murky threats, McClatchy cites, “A high-ranking Yemeni security official speaking on the condition of anonymity,” who told the news outlet that the threat “had no basis in fact,” with the source bemusedly attributing “media reports about imminent terror strikes to a single official’s comments, which he cast as a misguided attempt at shifting public opinion in the face of increasing and unpopular American drone strikes.”
Dozens of people, labeled “suspected militants” by the US, have been killed in Yemen over the last two weeks as a result of at least eight drone strikes, attacks that have outraged Yemeni citizens. According to Princeton University professor and Yemen expert Gregory Johnson, the drone strikes are actually serving to recruit more terrorists.
"There are strikes that kill civilians. There are strikes that kill women and children. And when you kill people in Yemen, these are people who have families. They have clans. And they have tribes. And what we’re seeing is that the United States might target a particular individual because they see him as a member of al-Qaeda. But what’s happening on the ground is that he’s being defended as a tribesman,” said Johnson.
Figures show that 50 civilians are killed for every one terrorist taken out by a drone strike, which means that 95% of the victims are innocent men, women and children.

Even though the Big Brother NSA is doing unconstitutional spying on every American, the F.B.I. now claims that there was little its agents could have done to prevent the Boston Marathon bombings.
Never mind that the Russians even told us about the Muslim bombers who came to the U.S. from their terrorist infested state of Chechnya. The Russians helped us and we still fucked it up.
Alternate Theory - The F.B.I. knew who the bombers were and were conducting a sting operation that went wrong. Or, the F.B.I. was told to "stand down" and not follow up on them. If the immigrant Chechnyan terrorists set off a bomb that provides fodder for the government to demand the increase in Police State powers.
P.S. - Why the fuck are we importing Muslim "immigrants" from the terrorist war zone of Chechnya??? and why am I almost the only person asking this question???
Now a Cover Up
Dozens of CIA operatives were on the ground
during Benghazi attack
CNN has uncovered exclusive new information about what is allegedly happening at the CIA, in the wake of the deadly Benghazi terror attack.
Four Americans, including Ambassador Christopher Stevens, were killed in the assault by armed militants last September 11 in eastern Libya.
Sources now tell CNN dozens of people working for the CIA were on the ground that night, and that the agency is going to great lengths to make sure whatever it was doing, remains a secret.
CNN has learned the CIA is involved in what one source calls an unprecedented attempt to keep the spy agency’s Benghazi secrets from ever leaking out.
Since January, some CIA operatives involved in the agency’s missions in Libya, have been subjected to frequent, even monthly polygraph examinations, according to a source with deep inside knowledge of the agency’s workings.
The goal of the questioning, according to sources, is to find out if anyone is talking to the media or Congress.
It is being described as pure intimidation, with the threat that any unauthorized CIA employee who leaks information could face the end of his or her career.
In exclusive communications obtained by CNN, one insider writes, “You don’t jeopardize yourself, you jeopardize your family as well.”
Another says, “You have no idea the amount of pressure being brought to bear on anyone with knowledge of this operation.”
“Agency employees typically are polygraphed every three to four years. Never more than that,” said former CIA operative and CNN analyst Robert Baer.
