Mark Zuckerberg says immigration is a "Civil Right" - and cheap labor is good too!

Bullshit Alert
Another Billionaire for Poverty . . . Your Poverty.

Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg said Sunday that U.S. immigration reform is “one of the biggest civil rights issues of our time.”

Shit.  Now illegal and legal immigration is a fucking "Civil Right".

The 29-year-old billionaire, who has recently taken a more active role in calling for immigration reform, made the comment on ABC’s “This Week.” And he was immediately challenged by the interviewer, who suggested many Americans would likely disagree that providing a path to citizenship for some of the 11 million people living in this country illegally is a civil rights issue.

“There are a lot of misconceptions about that,” Zuckerberg responded. “A lot of them came here because they just want to work. They want to help out their families and they want to contribute,” reports Fox News.

Zuckerberg recently founded the group FWD.us with other Silicon Valley leaders “to promote policies to keep the United States and its citizens competitive in a global economy,” according to its website.

FWD.us’ key points include securing borders, the path to citizenship and support for issuing more H-1B visas.

The group argues the change will “attract the world’s best and the brightest workers.”

However, skeptics argue that allowing U.S. employers to "temporarily" hire more educated foreign workers for skilled jobs or “specialty occupations” in such fields as technology and engineering allows companies like Facebook to hire lower-paid immigrants over college-educated Americans.

Americans Need Jobs
Billionaire assholes like Zuckerberg want to import and legalize countless millions of new workers from foreign nations to compete with Americans for a limited number of jobs and drive wages down.
.
Both political parties join with Zuckerberg in this madness.  The Democrats in order to recruit new poor voters and the GOP to serve their Masters in the business community looking for cheap labor.  Both parties could care less about the under and unemployed American citizen.

Socialist Councilwoman urges Boeing workers to physically seize factories

The Rise of American Communism
The American Left has become so extreme that
FDR's New Dealers look like Conservatives.

Seattle City Councilmember-elect Kshama Sawant told Boeing machinists her idea of a radical option, should their jobs be moved out of state.

“The workers should take over the factories, and shut down Boeing’s profit-making machine,” Sawant announced to a cheering crowd of union supporters in Seattle’s Westlake Park Monday night.

This week, Sawant became Seattle’s first elected Socialist council member. She ran on a platform of anti-capitalism, workers’ rights, and a $15 per-hour minimum wage for Seattle workers.

On Monday night, she spoke to supporters of Boeing Machinists, six days after they rejected a contract guaranteeing jobs in Everett building the new 777X airliner for eight years, in exchange for new workers giving up their guaranteed company pensions reports KIRO TV.

Now Boeing is threatening to take those jobs to other states. “That will be nothing short of economic terrorism because it’s going to devastate the state’s economy,” she said.

Sawant is calling for machinists to literally take-possession of the Everett airplane-building factory, if Boeing moves out. She calls that “democratic ownership.”

“The only response we can have if Boeing executives do not agree to keep the plant here is for the machinists to say the machines are here, the workers are here, we will do the job, we don't need the executives. The executives don’t do the work, the machinists do,” she said.

Sawant says after workers “take-over” the Everett Boeing plant; they could build things everyone can use.

“We can re-tool the machines to produce mass transit like buses, instead of destructive, you know, war machines,” she told KIRO 7.

Sawant says she was referring to “drones” when speaking of war machines. Still, she says even as they work on the lines, building airplanes daily, she believes Boeing workers are under siege.

“Workers have to realize, they have more power than they think,” she said.

Obama should nationalize the big corporations says Antonio Banderas

Hollywood Moonbat Alert
If he’s so into wealth redistribution why doesn’t he
hand over his millions to the government?

Don't you just love millionaire Socialists?  It is capitalism for them, but Socialism for others.

Spanish actor Antonio Banderas surprised CNN viewers when he criticized US President Barack Obama and suggested Europe and the US should apply the same economic policies as Venezuela’s late president Hugo Chávez.

During his talk with Spanish journalist Ana Pastor, Banderas was asked several questions about the current financial crisis and possible solutions to it.

The Malaga-born star pointed the finger of blame at “the markets, the lobbies, the big corporations” and suggested they didn’t have to take responsibility when countries and governments had problems.
“We’re not being governed by the people we voted for,” he told Pastor.

“How do you put a stop to that?” she asked.

“You break it like Chávez did in his day, you get all these big corporations and you nationalize them,” answered Banderas in the midst of a deafening silence.

“There was no other way out,” he added.

The Hollywood actor also criticized the US’s President Obama for not fullfilling his promises during his two terms in office and succumbing to the pressure of big business and financial markets.

Venezuela makes a Communist their dictator

A Communist Power Grab
  • Leftist Congress gives their Socialist President the power to pass laws without congressional approval.

The Socialist-Communist majority in the Venezuelan Congress granted President Nicolas Maduro yearlong decree powers on Tuesday that he says are essential to regulate the economy and stamp out corruption but adversaries view as a power grab.

Hundreds of supporters of the ruling Socialist Party cheered outside the National Assembly as the so-called Enabling Law was passed, while a recording of Maduro's late predecessor, Hugo Chavez, singing Venezuela's anthem rang out inside the hall reports Reuters News.

The power to pass laws without congressional approval gives Maduro a political victory in the run-up to December 8 municipal elections, although he still faces a severely distorted economy with embarrassing product shortages and inflation surging to nearly 55 percent.

"I want to thank the majority of patriotic and socialist lawmakers for approving this law that will let us advance, over the next 12 months, in defeating the economic war being waged against our people," Maduro said.

An Attack on Private Property
  • The mouth-breathing Leftist masses empty the store shelves of the "evil" capitalists on the orders of their Socialist Dictator.

Thousands of people have lined up in front of electronics stores and hardware stores that have been forced at gun point by Maduro to empty their inventories at cut-rate prices.

His party is hoping the moves will revive its chances in the upcoming elections for about 370 mayors and city council members.

"Don't leave anything on the shelves," Maduro said when he announced his campaign against what Socialists call "price gouging" and what the rest of the world calls free enterprise.

Maria Davila felt like a winner after emerging from the Traki department store with clothes for herself and her husband, as well as toys for their four children.

Davila spent 14 hours in line to make her purchases after the store reduced prices by up to 70% on merchandise to comply with Maduro's crusade against the country's "parasitical bourgeoisie," reports USA Today.

"It was well worth the wait," Davila, 42, says of her ordeal. "I saved so much money. I feel like I won the lottery."

"The opposition is going to do very well in the largest cities and state capitals,'' says Tarek Yorde, a Caracas-based political consultant. "I think they are going to win up to 25 of the country's 33 largest cities."

"They are destroying the Venezuelan economy,'' opposition leader Henrique Capriles Radonski said during a weekend campaign swing through the eastern state of Sucre. "People are waiting in line outside stores because they know that inventories are drying up."

Socialist Democrats on a Job Killing Rampage - A 95% Drop in Jobs

Porn Star Sunny Leone

Democrats Drive Porn Jobs Out of L.A.
  • Liberals work overtime to crush job creation and then they wonder why there is not enough tax money to pay for government.

The number of permits pulled to make porn films in Democrat controlled Los Angeles County has declined an estimated 95 percent — from about 480 issued in 2012 to only 24 through the first nine months of this year — since a law requiring adult film actors to use condoms took effect, officials said Friday.

Film LA, a private nonprofit that issues permits for filming in Los Angeles County, cautioned that its 2012 figures were just an estimate because it did not specifically track porn films until the condom requirement took effect in March 2012 reports the Associated Press.

Now that it does, the organization said only 24 permits were issued this year as of mid-September.
.
The adult film industry trade group, the Free Speech Coalition, said those numbers show the law adopted by voters is costing the county hundreds of thousands of dollars.

The Los Angeles Times reported that the porn industry employs about 10,000 people as actors or in technical supporting jobs.

Larry Flint of Hustler said, "We won't be doing anything in Los Angeles."  He is already making plans to shift production to Mexico, Arizona or Hawaii.

The group's executive director, Diane Duke, said a typical porn film permit costs about $1,000, meaning the county lost about $456,000.

"And if you think about the associated vendors and jobs that have gone elsewhere, I think that speaks volumes about what this is costing," she said.

Duke said some filmmakers went to neighboring counties, while others headed out of state.
.
Some smaller producers could also be forgoing permits to keep from drawing attention to themselves.

Driving taxpayers out of Los Angeles
Jenna Jameson earns a million dollar paycheck in the porn industry.  Socialist Democrats have decided that having lots of taxpayers in the state is a bad thing.  Much better to drive jobs across the border into Nevada or Mexico.

Big Brother Sex Police
Fascist Democrats (helped by many Republicans) are thrusting unconstitutional Police State powers deep, deep into our most personal of freedoms  -  the right to have sex.
.
If Big Brother can invade privately owned businesses and force free men and women to use condoms under the watchful eye of agents of the All-Powerful-State then our Liberty is doomed.  Once this Fascist intrusion into our freedom becomes the norm the State will expand their surveillance of private sex acts in the name of "health" and "the public good".

Roger Daltrey: ‘I will never forgive Labour for their immigration policies’

Roger Daltrey, The Who frontman, says that he is angry that Labour's mass immigration policies have taken jobs from his friends

This sounds so, so familiar.  -  Politicians around the world are all the same.  They want to pay back their backers in the business community by allowing nearly unlimited immigration in order to drive down wages.  The native born citizens are usually called "racists" for daring to want to be employed in the nation of their birth instead of handing over their jobs to immigrants.

Roger Daltrey, the lead singer of The Who, says he will never forgive Labour for their mass immigration policies as he says they “destroyed the jobs of my mates”.

The musician, who once supported the party, says that they have let down his generation by allowing an influx of workers which resulted in jobs being undercut because of “stupid thinking on Europe”.
.
It is the immigrants who get wrongly blamed for the problems, Daltrey says, when actually it was a political mistake which caused them.

"I will never, ever forgive the Labour party for allowing this mass immigration with no demands put on what people should be paid when they come to this country. I will never forgive them for destroying the jobs of my mates, because they allowed their jobs to be undercut with stupid thinking on Europe, letting them all in, so they can live 10 to a room, working for Polish wages,” he told the Sunday Times magazine reports the UK Telegraph.

Roger in the olden days.

“I've got nothing against the Poles at all, but that was a political mistake and it made me very angry. And the people who get it in the neck are the immigrants, and it's not their fault."

He refused to rule out voting for Nigel Farage in the election, saying that at the moment he does not who will get his support.

Daltrey, 69, grew up in working class Shepherd's Bush, west London, and is fiercely proud of his roots.

He has spoken out about the impact of immigration on the British working classes before, claiming two years ago that the coalition did not “have the balls” to tackle the problem.

This time his attack is aimed directly at Labour and the European Union, the bureaucracy of which he says that he “can’t stand”, adding: “It’s detrimental to the whole place”.

The singer also criticised politicians over their use of social networking sites, particularly Twitter, asking how they find the time to come up with mundane postings when they should be concentrating on running the country.

“I find it really worrying that politicians tweet. That really worries the fuck out of me,” he said.

“They should be sitting there thinking about doing a good job rather than telling us what they had for breakfast or what colour suit they're wearing.”

Modern technology has taken the joy out of life, he says, and we got more done before the invention of smartphones.

“We're just busy doing nothing now”, said Daltrey, who runs a trout fishery at his home in East Sussex. “We've got no time to contemplate, no time to dream.”

The GOP shoves it hard up Obama's . . . .

Give it him hard and deep
Mark your calendar. The GOP actually did something.

By Gary;

It warms the cockles of my heart to see the Socialist Democrats get fucked on live TV.

It was a thing of beauty, and a wonder to behold, to watch 39 scumbag Democrats jump from the Obamacare ship and vote with the GOP to extend insurance policies.

And I just love the name of the bill -  Keep Your Health Plan Act.

The House passed the bill, 261 to 157.  The DNA basic instinct to save your own skin first is as old as the caveman, and Democrats are scared shitless.  For some strange reason four Republicans voted against the bill.

A Warning  -  Keep in mind that we are dealing with the big government loving Republicans here.  It appears that the bill by GOP Rep. Fred Upton would allow insurers to sell their plans that were active as of January 2013 into 2014.

So the GOP had the Democrats by the short and curlies and all the bill did was push enforcement back by only one year????  Why not a bill to permanently give Americans the right to buy the insurance of their choice forever and ever?

To me this would have been the perfect opportunity (a teachable moment) to stand up for private enterprise and the right of the people to purchase, or not purchase, the product of their choice.

Maybe there is a good reason for only going for one year, but I can't see it.

Comrade Obama is threatening a veto.  He may think the Upton bill will get passed through a Democrat Senate in panic of losing seats and on to his desk.

Today we celebrate a small victory. . . . but like Michael Myers or Freddy Krueger, the horror of Socialism just won't die.  It keeps coming back like a bad movie sequel.  The battle goes on.

Venezuela jails 100 "bourgeois" businessmen

Coming soon to the United States of Obama?

"They are barbaric, these capitalist parasites!"
Comrade President Nicolas Maduro

Venezuela's socialist government has arrested more than 100 "bourgeois" businessmen in a crackdown on alleged price-gouging at hundreds of shops and companies since the weekend, President Nicolas Maduro said on Thursday.

"They are barbaric, these capitalist parasites!" Maduro thundered in the latest of his lengthy daily speeches. "We have more than 100 of the bourgeoisie behind bars at the moment."

The successor to the late Hugo Chavez also said his government was preparing a law to limit Venezuelan businesses' profits to between 15 percent and 30 percent.

Officials say "unscrupulous" companies have been hiking prices of electronics and other goods more than 1,000 percent. Critics say failed socialist economic policies and restricted access to foreign currency are behind Venezuela's runaway inflation reports Reuters News.

"Goodyear has to lower its prices even more, 15 percent is not enough, the inspectors have go there straightaway," Maduro said in his evening address, sending officials to check local operations of the U.S.-based tire manufacturer.

Since the weekend, soldiers and inspectors have gone into 1,400 shops, taken over operations at an electronics firm and a battery-making company, and rounded up a handful of looters.

The inspections have shaken Venezuela three weeks before local elections that his opponents are casting as a referendum on the 50-year-old former bus driver. Maduro has made preserving Chavez's legacy the mainstay of his government and has been matching his former mentor's anti-capitalist rhetoric.

"It's time to deepen the offensive, go to the bone in this economic war," he said.

Only a few of the hundreds of shops targeted with surprise inspections had been found to be offering "fair prices," officials say. Some businesses are voluntarily lowering prices - or staying closed - in case the inspectors come.

"We've reduced everything by 10 to 15 percent, but it's not fair. I can't make a profit now," said the owner of one small electronics store, who asked not to be identified.
Socialist Inflation
A $34.99 toaster in the US costs
$175 in Venezuela.

Venezuela's official inflation, 54 percent annually, is the highest in the Americas.

The government has ordered local telecom companies to block various websites showing the bolivar at 10 times the official rate of 6.3 to the greenback on the illegal market.

Prominent pro-opposition columnist Nelson Bocaranda said Maduro's economic policies were "chillingly similar" to those of Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe. The African leader also used security forces to enforce a price crackdown in 2007.

Opposition party Justice First accused the state of hypocrisy, saying its stores were also hiking prices unjustifiably.

An imported sandwich toaster, for example, that costs $34.99 in the United States, was selling at a fivefold markup of 1,100 bolivars ($175 at the official exchange rate) in state supermarket chain Bicentenario, it said.

"This shows the economic chaos Maduro has got us in where prices have no logic. The government created this monster and now tries to pretend it will control it, but Venezuelans cannot be deceived by this electoral show," Justice First said.

Like Chavez on several occasions, Maduro is seeking decree powers from Congress, which granted preliminary approval on Thursday. He says he needs the Enabling Law to fix the economy, but critics accuse Maduro of simply amassing power.

Coming Next: Race-Based Car Loans - Welcome to Socialism

A Socialist Wet-Dream Come True
  • Leftist loons now want race based car loans out of "fairness".
  • We all know how well the race based Community Reinvestment Act worked in collapsing the housing market five years ago.  But never try to confuse a Socialist with facts.

(From Moonbattery)  America under liberal rule is a racist tyranny. Think that is hyperbole? Then talk to a car dealer about this from the Wall Street Journal:
[T]he new Consumer Financial Protection Bureau [CFPB] is ginning up a campaign to use “disparate impact” analysis to charge racism in auto lending. That’s the theory that looks at statistics to prove bias without evidence of specific discriminatory intent. Never mind the financial or other circumstances of the borrowers beyond their race.
That is, car dealers must provide a proportionately equivalent number of car loans, at the same interest rate, to all racial groups, regardless of whether members of these groups are equally likely to repay the loan. Essentially, if Customer X has money in the bank and has never missed a day of work in his life, and Customer Y is living on welfare and just got out of jail, they must be regarded as equal credit risks if Customer Y is lucky enough to be black.

Obviously, there are plenty of blacks who are good credit risks. Equally obviously, there are many who are not. You would have to spend your entire life sealed in a windowless room with no access to the outside world except a TV tuned to PBS not to know that there are cultural differences that make blacks as a group significantly less likely to repay their loans than whites reports Moonbattery.

To achieve the liberal conception of equality, these differences must be papered over by forcing car dealers to make bad loans, effectively subsidizing cars for those who don’t pay their bills at the expense those of us who do pay our bills, because we will end up having to pay more to make up the loss.

If all of this sounds familiar, you could be thinking of the Community Reinvestment Act, spawned by Carter but doubled down on by Clinton and Obama, by which the federal government forced banks to make mortgage loans on a racial basis lest they be accused of “redlining.” This was a primary cause of the 2008 economic crash.
Patrice Ficklin, head of the bureau’s Office of Fair Lending and Equal Opportunity, revealed that “we have found substantial and statistically significant disparities between the interest rates paid by African American, Hispanic, and Asian car buyers when compared to the interest rates paid by white car buyers with similar credit scores and other factors.
Really. Can we see some evidence of this?

No, we cannot.
[The CFPB] hasn’t published its research in detail and has instead proceeded to mount a political pressure campaign to remove dealer discretion in setting loan terms. “Guidance” from the agency sent to banks in March included advice on how to avoid running afoul of anti-discrimination laws in auto lending.
Message received. The banks that provide financing for the dealers began warning dealers to improve compliance or risk having flat fees imposed. In other words, the dealers’ profits on loans would be capped.
Knuckle under to intimidation and regard black skin as the ultimate qualification for a loan, or your profits will be capped. I didn’t think I would live to see things done this way in America.

Caesar Obama abolishes laws at will

All Hail Caesar Obama
By a wave of his royal hand our great Caesar has declared that private businesses will be "allowed" to sell insurance.

By Gary;

The Republic stands on the edge of a razor blade.  Stray but a little and the great Republic of the Founding Fathers crashes into Fascism and Monarchy.

Our Caesar said yesterday that he will use his royal "enforcement discretion" to allow government declared illegal health insurance plans to still be sold.  How kind of him.

Caesar will temporarily not enforce the penalty on individuals.  Temporarily for one year.  Just long enough to get past the 2014 mid-term elections.

Decades of Decline.  Obama has only brought to a head what has been happening for decades.  Congress has been steadily abandoning their power to an increasingly Imperial executive branch.

Both parties have eagerly voted away Congressional power.  That power has been given over to the President or to unelected boards and commissions that in turn issue intrusive Federal Fatwas that must be obeyed by a helpless public.

Neither party really cares about an 18th century Constitution that slows down their grab for total power.

The Congressional GOP appears to oppose Obamacare (while many GOP Governors embrace it.)  We will see how this plays out.  But I see no movement at all from Republicans to cut the size and power of the Imperial Federal government.  Year after year, decade after decade, the Republicans keep voting to centralize and fund Big Government.

What we have is a Congressional "fight" between guests at an exclusive dinner party over which faction gets the biggest share of the meal.

I fear the Republic is dead.  Long live the American Empire.

The Death of A Republic
Caesar speaks to the Senate as the Republic dies and an Empire is born.
Sometimes you just elect the wrong person to office.  (From HBO's "Rome".)

Caesar Obama crosses the Rubicon.
The Constitution has no meaning to either Caesar Obama or to most members of Congress from either party.  For them it is all about using the raw power of centralized government to buy votes back home to keep themselves in office.

Business brings in illegals to take jobs from locals

Chinese workers man a drilling machine for soil analysis in preparation

This Sounds So, So Familiar
  • To save on labor costs businesses claim a "labor shortage" and then import foreigners to do menial labor or work in the construction industry.
  • The story is the same the world over - "We need to bring in foreigners to do the work locals won't do."  You bet the locals don't want to work at slave wages.  But desperate foreigners sure will.

(Vientiane, Laos)  Lao authorities have launched a pilot program in the capital Vientiane to regulate foreign workers in the country, who are taking thousands of low-skill jobs away from locals, according to officials.

As part of the project, the Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare is collecting data on foreign workers in the city and setting up a “one-stop service” where undocumented workers can go to sign up for permits, a senior official from the ministry told RFA’s Lao Service.

The official, speaking on condition of anonymity, did not say whether the documentation process was part of an amnesty for those working illegally, but local news reports did not rule out the prospects of deportation for some reports Radio Free Asia.

Efforts to regulate the city’s undocumented foreign workers—many of them from neighboring Vietnam, China, and Thailand—will be used to help develop similar programs in the rest of the country, he said.

There are an estimated 4,900 illegal workers in the city of Vientiane, many of them engaged in menial labor or in the construction industry.

“Right now we don’t have a model that other provinces can follow. The capital Vientiane will be the test case, because it is central and administered by the Ministry of Home Affairs,” the official said.

Many Lao provinces, particularly those bordering China and Vietnam, face problems with foreigners entering the country on tourist visas and staying to work, he said.
.
According to recent statistics from the ministry collected as part of the pilot program, the city has some 7,500 foreign workers, 4,900 of them undocumented.

More than 3,200 of them are from Vietnam, 2,500 from China, 600 from Thailand, and 1,000 from other countries.

China wants robots to replace human workers

Commerce is our goal here at Tyrell. "More human than human" is our motto.
Blade Runner

The Droids are Taking Our Jobs
  • We are looking at a brave new world of a massive and permanent unemployment of countless millions of people and ever increasing poverty caused by computers, the Internet and robotics.
  • In China more than 60 percent of the enterprises surveyed have reduced production line employees by at least 10% using robotics.  While 16 percent of the firms have cut their production jobs by more than 30%.
  • Best of all, robots do not form unions, take vacations or want pay raises.

Zhejiang province is to invest 500 billion yuan ($82 billion) over the next five years to encourage manufacturers to adopt more robots to overcome the short supply and high cost of labor.

The program is underway and will help at least 5,000 companies a year, a source with the investment division of the Zhejiang Economic and Information Commission told China Daily, without giving details.

Replacing humans with robots is the most effective way to tackle the labor shortage and rising labor costs, the commission said reports China Daily.

From 2005 to 2012, average labor costs in Zhejiang, a hub for private manufacturing enterprises, almost tripled from 14,847 yuan to 41,370 yuan a year, with an annual increase of nearly 16 percent.

In a survey conducted by the commission in May, 75 percent of respondents said rising costs were the main reason for switching to robots.

Robot Hamburger Maker
Even fast food jobs are rapidly being abolished by technology.  No longer will they say, “He’s going to end up flipping burgers.” Because now, robots are taking even these ignobly esteemed jobs. Alpha machine from Momentum Machines cooks up a tasty burger with all the fixins. And it does it with such quality and efficiency it’ll produce “gourmet quality burgers at fast food prices.”
(singularityhub.com)

As factories used more robots, the proportion of surveyed enterprises with labor shortages dropped from 80 percent last year to 56.4 percent. The survey was based on replies from 515 enterprises that have introduced robot workers.

More than 60 percent of the enterprises surveyed have reduced production line employees by at least 10 percent, while 16 percent of the firms have cut their production jobs by more than 30 percent.

Meanwhile, robot workers have helped these factories improve productivity by more than 10 percent.
.
If such a strategy is adopted by large enterprises throughout the province, the labor shortage will be reduced by 700,000 workers, saving 29 billion yuan in labor costs a year, the commission said.

Li Gang, president of the robotics sector in China at ABB, a leading supplier of industrial robots, said China has become a "world factory", but with increasing awareness of health and safety the manufacturing sector faces challenges in the workplace.

"Replacing workers with robots in dangerous and unhealthy working environments and using them for more creative jobs will be an inevitable choice for China's manufacturing sector," Li said.

He was speaking at a forum during the 15th China International Industry Fair in Shanghai last week.

Li said robot sales in China accounted for 21 percent of the world's total in 2012, and he estimates that the country will become the largest robot market in the next year or two.

Communists Seize Private Property in Venezuela

Government re-distribution of the wealth just in time for election day.

Communism - Stealing Private Property
"This is more like government-sanctioned looting."

Welcome to Communism and Poverty  -  Thousands of Venezuelans lined up outside the country's equivalent of Best Buy, a chain of electronics stores known as Daka, hoping for a bargain after the socialist government forced the company to charge customers "fair" prices.

President Nicolás Maduro ordered a military "occupation" of the company's five stores as he continues the government's crackdown on an "economic war" it says is being waged against the country, with the help of Washington.

Members of Venezuela's National Guard, some of whom carried assault rifles, kept order at the stores as bargain hunters rushed to get inside reports USA Today.

"I want a Sony plasma television for the house," said Amanda Lisboa, 34, a business administrator, who had waited seven hours already outside one Caracas store. "It's going to be so cheap!"

Televisions were the most in-demand item in the line outside one Caracas store, though people waited more than eight hours for fridges, washing machines, sewing machines and other imported appliances.

The Communist Party of Venezuela is a partner of the late Hugo Chavez
and his United Socialist Party of Venezuela

Water and snacks were being sold outside the store by savvy Venezuelans keen to profit from the commotion. Happy customers weaved giant television screens and other items back to their cars through the crowds.

Images circulating online as well as reports by local media appeared to show one Daka store in the country's central city of Valencia being looted.

"I have no love for this government," said Gabriela Campo, 33, a businesswoman, hoping to take home a cut-price television and fridge. "They're doing this for nothing but political reasons, in time for December's elections."

Maduro faces municipal elections on Dec. 8. His popularity has dropped significantly in recent months, with shortages of basic items such as chicken, milk and toilet paper as well as soaring inflation, at 54.3% over the past 12 months.

Economists are expecting a devaluation soon after the election, likely leading to even higher inflation.

The opposition, which has long struggled to gain ground against the country's socialist government, is hoping that the elections will be seen as a referendum against Maduro

"This is more like government-sanctioned looting," said 42-year-old Caracas-based engineer Carlos Rivero. "What stops them going into pharmacies, supermarkets and shopping malls?"
