The Federal Department of Islamic Development (Jakim) urged Putrajaya in its Friday sermon to consider internet censorship to stop attacks against Islam.

The sermon stated that given the challenges posed by anti-Islam groups through information technology, it was important that the Muslim community used whatever reasonable strategy available including social media to counter, answer and ward off the propaganda of the enemies of Islam.

“Muslims must be kept updated on current developments so that we get accurate information and not be influenced by enemy propaganda" reports the Malaysian Digest.

“You all can also use new media such as YouTube, Twitter and blogs as mediums to send out the right message and spread the teachings of Islam."

“While Muslims are working at strengthening the economy and the Malay race, the enemies have not slackened for a minute to run their mission to destroy Islam by using whatever strategy possible, including cyber troopers,” said Jakim in the sermon.

The Islamic body said it was required of Muslims to identify the agenda designed to erode the sanctity of Islam and to also identify those who attempted to do so.

Jakim warned that the international line of thinking, such as liberalism and pluralism, seems to be spreading fast via the internet and influencing the younger generation.

“They are launching calculated attacks by spreading news which insults Islam through the use of symbols and in social media such as Facebook and Twitter.

"From our observations, many symbols and hundreds of websites on the internet are being used to confuse and weaken those of the Islamic faith."

 

Jakim also warned that the use of websites to weaken the faith of Muslims was the cunning strategy of the enemies of Islam that had succeeded in bringing down a few countries in the Middle East.

 

Last week, Islamic NGO Pertubuhan Martabat Jalinan Muhibbah Malaysia lodged a police report against a Facebook account owner for allegedly insulting Islam.

 

Its chairman Abdul Rani Kulup Abdullah had said the report was lodged against the account owner, who used the name Adlin Abd Jalil, for displaying a picture of a grilled pig with the words "Allah" and "Muhammad", as well as the Jakim's halal logo on it on the posting.

 

In his police report, Abdul Rani urged the Home Ministry, Jakim and the Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission to look into the matter and take stern action against the account owner.

The Growing Police State  -  The British government and MI5 are working as the hired thugs of Comrade Obama in a joint direct attack on freedom of the press. 

Journalists are now being threatened with the crimes of terrorism and espionage if they dare try and stand up to their Masters in Big Brother Government and report the truth.

British authorities claimed the domestic partner of reporter Glenn Greenwald was involved in "terrorism" when he tried to carry documents from former U.S. intelligence contractor Edward Snowden through a London airport in August, according to police and intelligence documents.

Greenwald's partner, David Miranda, was detained and questioned for nine hours by British authorities at Heathrow on August 18, when he landed there from Berlin to change planes for a flight to Rio De Janeiro, Brazil.

After his release and return to Rio, Miranda filed a legal action against the British government, seeking the return of materials seized from him by British authorities and a judicial review of the legality of his detention reports Reuters News.

At a London court hearing this week for Miranda's lawsuit, a document called a "Ports Circulation Sheet" was read into the record. It was prepared by Scotland Yard - in consultation with the MI5 counterintelligence agency - and circulated to British border posts before Miranda's arrival. The precise date of the document is unclear.

"Intelligence indicates that Miranda is likely to be involved in espionage activity which has the potential to act against the interests of UK national security," according to the document.

"We assess that Miranda is knowingly carrying material the release of which would endanger people's lives," the document continued. "Additionally the disclosure, or threat of disclosure, is designed to influence a government and is made for the purpose of promoting a political or ideological cause. This therefore falls within the definition of terrorism..."

Miranda was not charged with any offense, although British authorities said in August they had opened a criminal investigation after initially examining materials they seized from him. They did not spell out the probe's objectives.

British authorities have said in court that items seized from Miranda included electronic media containing 58,000 documents from the U.S. National Security Agency and its British counterpart, Government Communications Headquarters (GCHQ).

Greenwald, who previously worked for Britain's Guardian newspaper, has acknowledged that Miranda was carrying material supplied by Snowden when he was detained.

In an email to Reuters, Greenwald condemned the British government for labeling his partner's actions "terrorism."

"For all the lecturing it doles out to the world about press freedoms, the UK offers virtually none...They are absolutely and explicitly equating terrorism with journalism," he said.

NSA data center police confiscated cameras and detained reporters for 'photography' on the outskirts of the massive NSA data center in Salt Late City Utah.  They were told that a posted sign now overrides the First Amendment when it comes to our rights.

Three journalists learned as much Thursday when they entered the Utah Data Center parking lot and security officers confiscated their cameras.

Infowars.com posted video of the confrontation Thursday. The website said it livestreamed the confrontation.

Anthony Gucciardi, a journalist for the website Storyleak.com who is a frequent contributor to Infowars.com, is seen on the video telling security he wants to speak to NSA public affairs. A security agent repeatedly tells Gucciardi and his two camera operators they need to stop filming.

"I wasn’t expecting a confrontation in the parking lot," Gucciardi said Friday in an interview with The Tribune. "I thought maybe they would get mad when I asked for a tour and tell me no."

Instead, security personnel took an iPhone that was filming and a larger handheld video camera. That’s where the video posted online stops.

Off camera, Gucciardi said, the security agents told the threesome they could not leave until they deleted the footage. At one point, Gucciardi said, an agent was holding one of the cameramen by the arm preventing him from getting into his car.

"After I kept saying, ‘We’re not deleting the footage,’ he ripped the cameras from the camera guy’s hands and deleted all of the footage except for that one video," Gucciardi said.

The missed video is the one posted online.

Then an agent wrote Gucciardi a warning on a standardized form. In the space for listing the violation, the agent handwrote "PHOTOGRAPHY."

Gucciardi said he wasn’t seeking a confrontation; his goal was to demonstrate U.S. surveillance is a one-way relationship.

"While the NSA spies on everything we do, we can’t even film them and have any kind of check on what they’re doing," Gucciardi said. 

"I'm shocked, shocked to find that data-mining is going on in here."

In what might be the most explicit hostility to such freedoms yet – as well as the most unmistakable evidence of rampant panic – the NSA’s director, General Keith Alexander, actually demanded that the reporting being done by newspapers around the world on this secret surveillance system be halted.

The head of the embattled National Security Agency, General Keith Alexander, is accusing journalists of “selling” his agency’s documents and is calling for an end to the steady stream of public disclosures of secrets snatched by former contractor Edward Snowden.

“I think it’s wrong that that newspaper reporters have all these documents, the 50,000 – whatever they have and are selling them and giving them out as if these – you know it just doesn’t make sense,” Alexander said in an interview with the Defense Department’s “Armed With Science” blog.

“We ought to come up with a way of stopping it. I don’t know how to do that. That’s more of the courts and the policy-makers but, from my perspective, it’s wrong to allow this to go on,” the NSA director declared.

Here are a few highlights:

As was true for Brazil previously, reports about surveillance aimed at leaders are receiving most of the media attention, but what really originally drove the story there were revelations that the NSA is bulk-spying on millions and millions of innocent citizens in all of those nations. The favorite cry of US government apologists -–everyone spies! – falls impotent in the face of this sort of ubiquitous, suspicionless spying that is the sole province of the US and its four English-speaking surveillance allies (the UK, Canada, Australia and New Zealand).

There are three points worth making about these latest developments.

• First, note how leaders such as Chancellor Angela Merkel reacted with basic indifference when it was revealed months ago that the NSA was bulk-spying on all German citizens, but suddenly found her indignation only when it turned out that she personally was also targeted. That reaction gives potent insight into the true mindset of many western leaders.

• Second, all of these governments keep saying how newsworthy these revelations are, how profound are the violations they expose, how happy they are to learn of all this, how devoted they are to reform. If that's true, why are they allowing the person who enabled all these disclosures – Edward Snowden – to be targeted for persecution by the US government for the "crime" of blowing the whistle on all of this?

If the German and French governments – and the German and French people – are so pleased to learn of how their privacy is being systematically assaulted by a foreign power over which they exert no influence, shouldn't they be offering asylum to the person who exposed it all, rather than ignoring or rejecting his pleas to have his basic political rights protected, and thus leaving him vulnerable to being imprisoned for decades by the US government?

Aside from the treaty obligations these nations have to protect the basic political rights of human beings from persecution, how can they simultaneously express outrage over these exposed invasions while turning their back on the person who risked his liberty and even life to bring them to light?

• Third, is there any doubt at all that the US government repeatedly tried to mislead the world when insisting that this system of suspicionless surveillance was motivated by an attempt to protect Americans from The Terrorists™? Our reporting has revealed spying on conferences designed to negotiate economic agreements, the Organization of American States, oil companies, ministries that oversee mines and energy resources, the democratically elected leaders of allied states, and entire populations in those states.

Can even President Obama and his most devoted loyalists continue to maintain, with a straight face, that this is all about Terrorism? That is what this superb new Foreign Affairs essay by Henry Farrell and Martha Finnemore means when it argues that the Manning and Snowden leaks are putting an end to the ability of the US to use hypocrisy as a key weapon in its soft power.

There are 25,000 employees of the NSA (and many tens of thousands more who work for private contracts assigned to the agency). Maybe one of them can tell The General about this thing called "the first amendment".

The American Police State  -  A veteran Washington D.C. investigative journalist says the Department of Homeland Security confiscated a stack of her confidential files during a raid of her home in August — leading her to fear that a number of her sources inside the federal government have now been exposed.

In an interview with The Daily Caller, journalist Audrey Hudson revealed that the Department of Homeland Security and Maryland State Police were involved in a predawn raid of her Shady Side, Md. home on Aug. 6. Hudson is a former Washington Times reporter and current freelance reporter.

A search warrant obtained by TheDC indicates that the August raid allowed law enforcement to search for firearms inside her home.

The document notes that her husband, Paul Flanagan, was found guilty in 1986 to resisting arrest in Prince George’s County. The warrant called for police to search the residence they share and seize all weapons and ammunition because he is prohibited under the law from possessing firearms.

But without Hudson’s knowledge, the agents also confiscated a batch of documents that contained information about sources inside the Department of Homeland Security and the Transportation Security Administration, she said.

Outraged over the seizure, Hudson is now speaking out. She said no subpoena for the notes was presented during the raid and argues the confiscation was outside of the search warrant’s parameter.

“They took my notes without my knowledge and without legal authority to do so,” Hudson said this week. “The search warrant they presented said nothing about walking out of here with a single sheet of paper.”

She provided TheDC with a photo showing the stack of file folders in a bag marked “evidence/property.”

On Thursday, a spokesman for the Maryland State Police declined to address any specifics about the search.

At about 4:30 a.m. on Aug. 6, Hudson said officers dressed in full body armor presented a search warrant to enter the home she shares on the bay with her husband. She estimates that at least seven officers took part in the raid.

After the search began, Hudson said she was asked by an investigator with the Coast Guard Investigative Service if she was the same Audrey Hudson who had written a series of critical stories about air marshals for The Washington Times over the last decade. The Coast Guard operates under the Department of Homeland Security.

But it wasn’t until a month later, on Sept. 10, that Hudson was informed by Bosch that five files including her handwritten and typed notes from interviews with numerous confidential sources and other documents had been taken during the raid.

“In particular, the files included notes that were used to expose how the Federal Air Marshal Service had lied to Congress about the number of airline flights there were actually protecting against another terrorist attack,” Hudson wrote in a summary about the raid provided to TheDC.

Recalling the experience during an interview this week, Hudson said: “When they called and told me about it, I just about had a heart attack.”

She said she asked Bosch why they took the files. He responded that they needed to run them by TSA to make sure it was “legitimate” for her to have them.

“‘Legitimate’ for me to have my own notes?” she said incredulously on Wednesday.

Asked how many sources she thinks may have been exposed, Hudson said: “A lot. More than one. There were a lot of names in those files.”

“This guy basically came in here and took my anonymous sources and turned them over — took my whistleblowers — and turned it over to the agency they were blowing the whistle on,” Hudson said. “And these guys still work there.”

The Daily Caller reached Bosch on his cell phone on Thursday. “Before I talk to you, I’m probably going to have to run this by our legal department,” he said.

Carlos Díaz, the chief of media relations for the Coast Guard, said in a statement that the Coast Guard Investigative Service was asked to participate in the raid because the search involved a Coast Guard employee. Flanagan is an ordinance technician for the Coast Guard in Baltimore.

China hires two million Internet "monitors"

More than two million people in China are employed by the government to monitor web activity, state media say, providing a rare glimpse into how the state tries to control the internet.

The Beijing News says the monitors, described as internet opinion analysts, are on state and commercial payrolls.

China's hundreds of millions of web users increasingly use microblogs to criticize the state or vent anger.

Recent research suggested Chinese censors actively target social media reports BBC News.

The report by the Beijing News said that these monitors were not required to delete postings.

They are "strictly to gather and "analyze" public opinions on microblog sites and compile reports for decision-makers", it said. It also added details about how some of these monitors work.

Tang Xiaotao has been working as a monitor for less than six months, the report says, without revealing where he works.

"He sits in front of a PC every day, and opening up an application, he types in key words which are specified by clients.

"He then monitors negative opinions related to the clients, and gathers (them) and compile reports and send them to the clients," it says.

The reports says the software used in the office is even more advanced and supported by thousands of servers. It also monitors websites outside China.

China rarely reveals any details concerning the scale and sophistication of its internet police force.

It is believed that the two million internet monitors are part of a huge army which the government relies on to control the internet.

The government is also to organise training classes for them for the first time from 14 to 18 October, the paper says.

But it is not clear whether the training will be for existing monitors or for new recruits.

The training will have eight modules, and teach participants how to analyse and judge online postings and deal with crisis situations, it says.

The most popular microblogging site Sina Weibo, launched in 2010, now has more than 500 million registered users with 100 million messages posted daily.

Topics cover a wide range - from personal hobbies, health to celebrity gossip and food safety but they talso include politically sensitive issues like official corruption.

Postings deemed to be politically incorrect are routinely deleted.

Time magazine is the latest example of controlled news.

Time magazine’s cover for its Sept. 16 issue features a picture of contented-looking Russian president Vladimir Putin, complete with a black background and a damning caption that declares “America’s weak and waffling, Russia’s rich and resurgent.”

But Time’s editors are shielding Americans from the demoralizing picture, putting a cheerful, sky-blue photo on the covers of magazines distributed in the United States.

“It’s time to pay college athletes,” says the chirpy, non-political U.S. cover, which shows a ball-carrying football player with arm outstretched.

The cover most Americans saw at the checkout counter safely overlooked a widely perceived fumble by Comrade Obama that left Russia to carry the ball in the Syrian war.

Communism in Action  -  Chinese state television on Sunday broadcast a startling video of a famous blogger in handcuffs, renouncing his Web posts and saying how dangerous the Internet would be if left uncontrolled by the government.

The 10-minute news report featuring Charles Xue — a Chinese American businessman and one of China’s most popular bloggers — was the latest step in what appears to be a systematic campaign to intimidate online opinion leaders against speaking too freely or critically of the government.

“It gratified my vanity greatly,” Xue said of the Internet. “I got used to my influence online and the power of my personal opinions . . . and I forgot who I am.”

Chinese authorities have increasingly been broadcasting interviews after big-name arrests, forcing suspects to confess publicly to alleged crimes prior to trial or conviction. Several businessmen arrested in recent weeks have had their taped confessions aired nationally reports the Washington Post.

Some legal critics have likened the practice to a Mao-era style of justice, when guilt was never in doubt, self-confessions were routine and the goal was to make public examples of the accused.
Few online opinion leaders could serve as a better example than Xue, a venture capitalist whose liberal posts had won him 12 million followers on a weibo microblogging site, the Chinese equivalent of Twitter.

Xue was arrested three weeks ago on charges of hiring a prostitute. He was jailed at a time when several other online activists were arrested. Doubts about the validity of his case were so widespread online that Beijing police issued denials that he had been set up.

Authorities had earlier broadcast a report on Xue’s solicitation charges, but Sunday’s segment seemed intended to curb the huge online influence he has accumulated.

Chinese officials have condemned the postings of Xue and others as "rumor-mongering", and Xue endorsed party leaders’ views with a long and detailed confession.

“At first, I was careful and I didn’t write many posts,” Xue said, in a video interview that at times seemed to attribute to microblogging the addictive and destructive qualities of illicit drugs. “But later, I posted more than 80 every day. . . . In the beginning, I verified every post. But later on, I no longer did that.”

“All of a sudden you draw so much attention,” he said. “How do you describe the feeling? Gorgeous.”

In the broadcast, CCTV reporters presented some of Xue’s offending posts. In one, he wondered whether China’s water, whose quality is always in question, contained contraceptives.

“First of all, I didn’t double-check my facts,” Xue said. “Secondly, I didn’t raise constructive suggestions to solve the problem. Instead, I just simply spread these ideas emotionally.”

Sunday’s broadcast came days after the enactment of strict laws imposing penalties for posting online rumors. Those whose posts are deemed rumors and that have been viewed by more than 5,000 Internet users or reposted more than 500 times will be subject to prosecution and face a possible three-year prison sentence.

Xue was forced to praise the new laws Sunday. “It is very necessary to release these laws and regulations today,” he said in the video. “Without regulation, there’s no punishment for spreading the rumors.”

The confession of a man whose extensive posts questioned China’s society and government appeared aimed at recasting those comments as an exercise in vanity.

Xue said that as his online following grew, so did his ego. He received invitations from universities and entrepreneurs. He felt like the “emperor of the Internet.” But, he said, in what may have been his biggest mistake, he felt that even leaders of China’s ruling Communist Party were not as powerful as he was.

“It’s not right for [popular bloggers] to behave higher than the law,” he said in a chastened tone. “If there is no moral standard or cost for slander, you can’t manage the Internet. And there are no limits. It becomes a big problem.”

Up to 10 years in prison for spreading "false" information

Blogging is not a crime  -  The power of Blogging has frightened to death corrupt political elites from Saudi Arabia to America to China.  The fascists of the world cannot stand the idea that the common man now owns his own Internet printing press and can speak out against authoritarianism.

Communist China's leaders have accelerated a renewed push for control of the Internet with draconian new regulations that allow them to impose lengthy jail terms on those convicted of spreading online rumors or using social media to provoke unrest.

The proliferation of Twitter-like social media platforms such as Sina Weibo, which has more than 500 million users, has posed a challenge to the CPC’s control over information, with microblogs increasingly shaping public discourse in China.

Micro-bloggers who peddle "false information" or "slanderous comments" will face up to three years in prison, according to a judicial interpretation issued by China's top court which came into force on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, those found guilty of using "false online information" to provoke "serious public disorder", could face jail terms of up to 10 years, the state-run China Daily reported.

Charges would be brought if "defamatory" comments were "viewed by at least 5,000 Internet users or re-tweeted 500 or more times", according to China's official news agency Xinhua reports the UK Telegraph.

Sun Jungong, a spokesman for the Supreme People's Court and Procuratorate, said the interpretation was aimed at rumor mongers who "gravely harmed social order or the national interest" by "causing a mass incident, disturbing public order and inciting ethnic and religious conflicts."

"Some internet users fabricate rumors about others and create false information while making use of sensitive social issues, which has disrupted social order and triggered mass incidents," he said, according to Xinhua.

While state media said the new rules were "timely" and "another means for authorities to ensure the healthy development of the Internet", freedom of speech activists and some lawyers expressed alarm at the move.

Mo Shaoping, a leading human rights lawyers, said he hoped the measures would help prevent "absurd" cases such as one where a micro-blogger was arrested for tweeting that nine people had died in an accident when, in fact, the true number was only seven.

"[But] if not handled properly, this might have negative effect on freedom of speech and the online fight against corruption," he added. "I believe that in the near future online free speech and the exposure of corruption will be suppressed."

Yuan Yulai, another rights lawyer who has over 1.3 million followers on China's Twitter-like microblog Weibo, complained that the interpretation had been published "too hastily" and without public consultation.

Liars! - Congress pretends to "debate" Syria

Obama is only allowing a debate on Syria because

of the new Internet media.

Thank God for the Internet and Bloggers.  We may have stopped a new war.  May have . . .

Comrade Obama said legislative leaders have agreed to hold a debate and a vote on bombing Syria as soon as Congress returns, which currently is scheduled to be Sept. 9.

But even so, the Anointed One proclaimed, "I have decided that the United States should take military action against Syrian regime targets.  I believe I have the authority to carry out this military action without specific congressional authorization . . . "


An Internet Nut Kicking

The corrupt filth in the D.C. Beltway and Downing Street totally miscalculated the growing power of the new Internet Media and Bloggers.

The traditional print, radio and TV media (liberal and conservative) mostly did their job and played dead for Obama allowing him to move forward to a war in support of the Syrian rebels.  Fox News went over the top showing crying Arab babies and corpses during a speech by John Kerry.  Talk about yellow journalism.

But the new independent Internet Media can spread information around the planet and to billions of people in only seconds.

News of war that used to take days or weeks to spread ignited the public.  Suddenly Obama's lackey, British Prime Minister David Cameron, ran into a firestorm back home and was defeated by his own Parliament.  Kick to the nuts #1.

Kick #2 happened Saturday when Obama claimed he agreed to a Congressional debate on Syria.

A Pretend "Debate" in Congress  -  The lap-dog Elite Media have mostly covered for Obama and the liars and whores in Congress.  The "debate" will be about firing new rockets into Syria.  But the "debate" will ignore the existing U.S. program to arm the rebels

The real truth is the U.S., the UK and their Islamist allies in the Middle East have been at war with secular, pro-Russia Syria for months and months.  Using the CIA the U.S. has been working through Islamist allies like Saudi Arabia to fund and run guns to the rebels.

The so-called "debate" is mostly a sham.  A fig leaf for getting caught.  Both parties in Congress knew about backing the rebels.  After all, anyone with a computer could read the reports from largely overseas media.

The next test of the Internet Media is to fully expose the American support of Islamist rebels.  That is a tough sell to an apathetic public.

Rep. James Clyburn (D-S.C.), the third-ranking House Democrat, on Wednesday accused the U.S. media of spreading “manufactured controversies” that pose dangers similar to the propaganda spread by the Nazis during the Holocaust.

Speaking to Sirius XM, Clyburn accused the modern Internet-based media of misrepresenting the statements of people in order to hurt their reputations.

“You have people’s words and phrases being misrepresented and looped through the news media and thrown out there on the Internet, and people run with it because these things start getting reported in the mainstream media, and before you know it, people believe that stuff,” Clyburn said.

The consequences of such misrepresentation, Clyburn warned, could be severe reports The Hill.

“The people of Germany believed Hitler’s foolishness that led to the Holocaust. They believed that stuff,” Clyburn said. “People will tend to believe what they hear through the media.”

Clyburn singled out “extreme right-wing” bloggers in particular for criticism. He accused such bloggers of forcing Shirley Sherrod to resign from the Department of Agriculture after misrepresenting statements she made to make her appear racially biased.

He also said they had libeled the progressive group ACORN, leading to the group’s disbandment.

“Most of these people are not media people; they are bloggers, and they are bloggers for the extreme right wing,” he said.
