(Reuters)  -  Because of its persistent inability to tally its accounts, the Pentagon is the only federal agency that has not complied with a law that requires annual audits of all government departments. That means that the $8.5 trillion in taxpayer money doled out by Congress to the Pentagon since 1996, the first year it was supposed to be audited, has never been accounted for.

That sum exceeds the value of China's economic output last year.

At the DFAS offices that handle accounting for the Army, Navy, Air Force and other defense agencies, fudging the accounts with false entries is standard operating procedure, Reuters has found.
 And plugging isn't confined to DFAS (pronounced DEE-fass). Former military service officials say record-keeping at the operational level throughout the services is rife with made-up numbers to cover lost or missing information.

A review of multiple reports from oversight agencies in recent years shows that the Pentagon also has systematically ignored warnings about its accounting practices. "These types of adjustments, made without supporting documentation … can mask much larger problems in the original accounting data," the Government Accountability Office, the investigative arm of Congress, said in a December 2011 report.

Plugs also are symptomatic of one very large problem: the Pentagon's chronic failure to keep track of its money - how much it has, how much it pays out and how much is wasted or stolen.

In its investigation, Reuters has found that the Pentagon is largely incapable of keeping track of its vast stores of weapons, ammunition and other supplies; thus it continues to spend money on new supplies it doesn't need and on storing others long out of date.

It has amassed a backlog of more than half a trillion dollars in unaudited contracts with outside vendors; how much of that money paid for actual goods and services delivered isn't known. And it repeatedly falls prey to fraud and theft that can go undiscovered for years, often eventually detected by external law enforcement agencies.

According to a press release, the FBI says activist hackers linked to the collective known as Anonymous have secretly accessed U.S. government computers in multiple agencies and have stolen "sensitive information".  Whatever the Hell that means.

The FBI claims the breach affected the U.S. Army, Department of Energy, Department of Health and Human Services, and perhaps many more agencies reports Reuters News.

I will say it right here.  Right now.  The government is lying to us.

The government claims they were hacked, but there is no way for any outsider to prove the truth of that claim.  I suspect it is yet another phony statement to make Americans afraid enough to give away their rights to a Police State in return for "security".

I have only two real questions:

1. Why is this "sensitive information" connected to the Internet in the first place?
2. Who has been fired for connecting this "sensitive information" to the Internet for any pimple faced 16 years hacker on earth to look at?

Articles of impeachment against Eric Holder to be filed

Eleven U.S. House Republicans have drafted articles of impeachment against Attorney General Eric Holder, an action one lawmaker said wasn't done lightly.

The lawmakers plan to formally introduce their charges against Holder Thursday, Roll Call reported..The charges include the Justice Department's refusal to turn over documents on the failed gun-running Operation Fast and Furious, a refusal to uphold certain laws -- specifically the Defense of Marriage Act -- and a refusal to prosecute IRS officials who accessed tax records of political donors and candidates without authorization.

 The articles of impeachment also charge that Holder lied to Congress reports UPI News. Rep. Pete Olson, R-Texas, said the decision wasn't taken lightly. "Since the House voted in 2012 to hold Attorney General Eric Holder in contempt, the pattern of disregard for the rule of law and refusal to be forthright has continued," Olson said in a statement to Roll Call. "The American people deserve answers and accountability. If the attorney general refuses to provide answers, then Congress must take action."

Olson told Roll Call that he would release the four articles of impeachment Thursday. On Wednesday, he released a document detailing the impeachment claims against Holder.

• Article I claims Holder "engaged in a pattern of conduct incompatible with the trust and confidence placed in him" by refusing to comply with a subpoena issued by the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee for documents related to Operation Fast and Furious, which tracked guns crossing the U.S-Mexican border for use by drug cartels. One of the guns was used in the death of U.S. Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry in December 2010.

 

• Article II of the proceedings charges Holder violated his oath by refusing to enforce certain laws the Obama administration determined it would not enforce, including the Defense of Marriage Act, which the administration deemed unconstitutional.

 

• Article III charges Holder violated his oath by "refusing to prosecute individuals involved in the Internal Revenue Service scandal of unauthorized disclosure of tax records belonging to political donors."

   
The last article accuses Holder of providing "false testimony to the House Judiciary Committee" concerning possible prosecution of Fox News reporter James Rosen under the Espionage Act.

Ten other Republicans are cosponsoring the articles of impeachment, Roll Call said. They are Phil Roe of Tennessee, Ted Yoho of Florida, Lynn Westmoreland of Georgia, Larry Bucshon of Indiana, Michele Bachmann of Minnesota, and Blake Farenthold, Randy Weber, Roger Williams, Bill Flores and Louie Gohmert, all of Texas.

"Corruptus in Extremis"  -  A now "retired" Hillary Rodham Clinton has plunged into the lucrative world of paid speechmaking, joining a branch of the family business that has brought the Clintons more than $100 million since her husband left the White House in 2001.

Hillary Clinton spoke at two separate Goldman Sachs events on the evenings of Thursday, October 24 and Tuesday, October 29. As both Politico and the New York Times report, Clinton’s fee is about $200,000 per speech, meaning she likely netted around $400,000 for her paid gigs at Goldman over the course of six days.

Last Thursday, Clinton spoke for the AIMS Alternative Investment Conference hosted by Goldman Sachs, a closed event exclusively for Goldman clients. AIMS is an annual conference that explores the latest strategies and products available to financial advisers.

At the event, Clinton offered what one attendee described to me as “prepared remarks followed by questions,” reports National Review.

On Tuesday, Clinton spoke at the Builders and Innovators Summit, devoted to discussing entrepreneurship and how to help innovators expand and grow their businesses.

According to Politico, Clinton conducted a question-and-answer session with Goldman CEO Lloyd Blankfein.

Goldman Sachs declined to comment on the subject of her remarks or why Mrs. Clinton in particular was invited to the events.

Keeping close to the investment world, Clinton also made visits to private-equity firms KKR in July and the Carlyle Group in September.

At KKR’s annual investor meeting in California, Clinton answered questions from firm co-founder Henry Kravis on the Middle East, Washington, and politics. At Carlyle Group, Clinton made a speech to shareholders moderated by Carlyle founder David Rubenstein.

Clinton’s office did not respond to a request for comment.

• A corrupt Ohio GOP rammed through the John Kasich Re-Election Protection Act which would disenfranchise every Ohio voter by taking away their right to vote for smaller political parties. 
• It is all about power and fucking over the average voter.

Here we go again!  -  Just last week the corrupt GOP & Dem ruling Elites in Virginia banned the Libertarian Party from the debate for Governor even though the party was polling 11% of the vote.

Now we see the Ohio Republican Party trying to "fix" the 2014 election for Governor by effectively banning all smaller political parties from the ballot.  So much for freedom.

A measure of oppressive new election rules for minor political parties passed the state Senate on Tuesday despite concerns from members of the Libertarian and Green parties that the changes would obstruct their access to the ballot and create huge hurdles for their candidates that the "major" parties do not have to face.

 

The proposal was rammed through the Republican-controlled Senate on a 22-11 vote, with one GOP senator joining Democrats in opposition. The bill now goes to the GOP controlled House.

 

Gary Daniels, associate director of the American Civil Liberties Union of Ohio, told a Senate committee earlier Tuesday that the proposed petition requirements are onerous for third parties and that the changes come too close to the 2014 election, especially for candidates who are collecting signatures for office reports the Associated Press.

The proposal comes as Ohio Republicans face growing competition from tea party supporters who say they may support a third-party challenger to Republican Gov. John Kasich next year.

 

Seitz's bill would require minor parties to gather petition signatures from at least 1 percent of the total vote cast in the most recent election for governor or president.

 

That's more than 56,000 valid signatures using last year's election numbers just to appear on a ballot.  A massive task for smaller parties.  It also means parties must collect far, far more that this minimum because of signature attrition.

To remain a qualified political party, groups must get 3 percent of the total votes cast in the following gubernatorial or presidential election.

 

No third-party candidate in the most recent elections has reached those numbers.

But the law discriminates against any new party that may not want to run a candidate for President.  Perhaps a new party might only want to address Ohio issues, not Federal issues.

 

Libertarian candidate Gary Johnson garnered 0.9 percent, or 49,493 votes, in the 2012 presidential election. In the 2010 gubernatorial race, Libertarian candidate Ken Matesz got 2.4 percent of the vote, while Green Party candidate Dennis Spisak won 1.5 percent.

 

Charlie Earl, a Libertarian candidate for governor, opposes the bill and predicted it would unite disenfranchised voters.

 

"What I believe they've done is taken four or five pockets of resistance and combined us into one bag of fury," he told reporters. "And we're coming after them. We're not going to stop."

Banned by the GOP?

 

Many third parties choose to build support by running in small, local campaigns before progressing to expensive and challenging presidential elections, but the Ohio bill only bases its judgment on presidential elections.  Any third party candidate from a party which chooses to focus its limited time and money on winnable campaigns would be at an immediate disadvantage.

Many Americans who want limited government are dissatisfied with both parties. They feel there is no real opposition party that seeks a responsible fiscal policy. Establishment Republicans are threatened by the growing competition from tea party supporters and liberty activists who are say they may support a third-party challenger to incumbent moderate Republicans.

A statement from the Libertarian Party of Ohio’s website says, “The bottom line is that the John Kasich Re-election Protection Act would disenfranchise every Ohio voter by taking away their right to vote for a candidate for governor other than a) John Kasich, a governor who has miserably failed the state of Ohio and betrayed millions of fiscal conservatives who expected him to follow Ohio law and oppose Obamacare, or b) the nominee of the other big-government party who is promising to double down on most of Kasich’s failing policies.”

Former Ohio State Representative Charlie Earl announced that he is running for governor as a Libertarian Party candidate next year. By Tuesday, Seitz was holding hearings on his new bill that would make it difficult for Earl to stay on the ballot.

 

Earl ran as the Libertarian candidate for Ohio Secretary of State in 2010 and received nearly 5 percent of the vote. In his announcement, Earl claimed he had “Tea Party support.”

Green Party congressional candidate Bob Hart told the Senate committee that the bill was blatantly unfair, “by eliminating all Green voters from the state of Ohio in 2014, prohibiting a primary, which is where Green voters are created, and then demanding that the candidate go out and petition nonexistent Green voters to get on the ballot.”

More Freedom in Russia?  -  Something serious is wrong in America.  The Parliament in authoritarian Russia consists of four different political parties.  While back here in the good old USA the same two parties "magically" win 100% of all elections.

This has not always been the case.  The U.S. used to have free elections and was a multi-party Republic.  But no more.  Through corrupt fundraising and discriminatory election laws the major parties work overtime to prevent anything that might remotely look like a free election.

Libertarian Robert Sarvis has been banned from the final candidates’ debate in the Virginia governor’s race, one of the co-sponsors said.

With the voters angry at the GOP and the Democrats, the Libertarians have risen to 11% in the polls.  That is a threat to both entrench parties and their corrupt money backers.

Sarvis, who is running as a third-party candidate in the Nov. 5 election, has become a wild card in recent weeks as his rising numbers in public polls appeared to reflect a distaste among voters for either major-party candidate.

WDBJ (Channel 7) of Roanoke, which is co-hosting the Oct. 24 forum with Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, said on its Web site that Sarvis did not meet the required threshold of public support as reflected in recent polls before Thursday’s deadline reports the Washington Post.

smaller parties are doing well in the polls the big boys work extra hard to get them kicked off debates.

As a third-party candidate, Sarvis needed to draw support from at least 10 percent of those surveyed in major independent polls, as tracked by RealClearPolitics.com, over the past three weeks before the debate.  Naturally these are "required" percentages are totally made up numbers set by the entrenched major parties.

Sarvis issued a statement late Thursday criticizing a decision given a “patina of objectivity” but actually “designed to exclude.”

“A decision made two weeks in advance of the debate, an eternity this close to Election Day, based on an average of polls released over a three-week window effectively anchors us to the lower numbers of older polls, even though our numbers continue to rise in every poll,” Sarvis said in the statement. “I am disappointed, but not surprised.”

He added that his campaign, a “breath of fresh air” for Virginians, would carry on.

In 1992 the voters were really pissed off.  Along comes independent Ross Perot who was allowed to participate in the Presidential debates and received nearly 20% of the nation's vote.  A 3rd party Perot received the highest percentage of the vote since Theodore Roosevelt's 27% in 1912.

What the fuck???  -  In a corrupt deal with the Communist Chinese the Obama regime has now exported American food industry jobs from the U.S. to the People's Republic.

Despite China’s disgusting food-safety record, the feds for the first time are allowing American chickens to be sent to China for processing — and then imported back to the United States.

On-site US inspectors will not be required at these Chinese sites so there is simply no guarantee that food safety laws are up to United States standards.  The chicken also won’t have to be labeled as coming from China.

The prospect of US grocery stores selling Chinese chicken nuggets laced with insecticide or substituted with rat meat prompted Sen. Chuck Schumer yesterday to demand aggressive action by US Department of Agriculture food inspectors.

“Given Chinese processors’ poor track record with regard to food-safety standards, the USDA should be taking every possible step to ensure that the chicken that ends up on our plates and in our McNuggets is safe,” Schumer (D-NY) said at a press conference reports the New York Post.

Some trade experts said the chicken deal could have been an effort by Washington to offer something to Beijing as U.S. officials keep pressing the Chinese on the value of their currency and other trade issues. The U.S. runs a bigger trade deficit with China than any other country.

Rep. Rosa DeLauro (D-Conn.) sponsored an amendment to the 2007 agricultural spending bill to block any government spending that would support implementing the new rule.

"Despite warnings from the Agriculture Department's Food Safety and Inspection Service's own inspectors of the safety of Chinese plants, and the possibility that we could bring a pandemic into our borders, imports will soon be coming into our country," DeLauro said in a statement.

Schumer said the U.S. must take two immediate steps: (1) increase the number of on-the-ground audits and inspections of the Chinese inspection system and all Chinese facilities where meat is processed and (2) increased inspection of chicken meat shipped back to the United States with the highest level of scrutiny and frequency, to ensure meat is safe for consumption and originated in the United States.

He pointed to the numerous and disturbing incidents of tainted food exported from China, including arsenic in calamari and rice, maggots in pasta, glass chips in pumpkin seeds reports the Staten Island Advance.

Other examples of Chinese tainted foods include:

• Police in China apprehended a group of criminals who have been selling rat, fox or mink meat as lamb for the past four years to markets in Shanghai and surrounding areas and made up to 10 million yuan ($1.6 million)
• At least 175 people had been sickened by insecticide-tainted dumplings from China, prompting supermarkets to pull Chinese-made meat products from their shelves while Tokyo pressed Beijing to improve food safety.
• The FDA effectively blocked the sale of five types of farm-raised seafood from China because of repeated instances of contamination from unapproved animal drugs and food additives. The F.D.A. said it decided to take the action after years of warnings and even a visit to Chinese fish ponds that resulted in no signs of improvement.
• Uncooked pork was found glowing in the dark due to a phosphorescent bacteria. An unsuspecting woman bought the pork in a Shanghai market only to find it radiating later that night on her kitchen table. The ghostly pork returned to normal meat color by morning.
• Hong Kong food inspectors found eggs imported from northeast China to be contaminated with high levels of melamine, toxic industrial additive at the heart of an adulteration scandal in Chinese milk products.
• Hundreds of other parents in central China unwittingly bought bad baby formula, in which nutritional supplements had been replaced with starch or sugar. Nearly 200 other babies, including at least 13 who died, now have what local residents call ''big head disease.
• ‘Cadmium’ rice -  Research published in February claimed that up to 10 per cent of rice sold in China was contaminated with heavy metals, including cadmium. Data collected by Nanjing Agricultural University found that the problem was most acute in Southern provinces, where in some areas 60 per cent of samples were contaminated, some with up to five times the legal limit.

Schumer said that these measures should be required because of the serious history of food-borne illnesses stemming from food products originating in China. He also pointed out that because no USDA country-of-origin labeling is required for food that is simply processed in another country, consumers will have no idea that their food has been processed in China.

The University of California has leased an Oakland residence for incoming system president Janet Napolitano for $9,950 a month, officials said Monday. Napolitano, the former U.S. secretary of Homeland Security and former governor of Arizona, will be provided the housing plus:

• an annual $570,000 salary
• $8,916 a year for car expenses
• $142,500 for one-time relocation costs

Napolitano is scheduled to begin her UC presidency Sept. 30, with her office at UC system headquarters in downtown Oakland reports the Los Angeles Times.

 

The two-year lease for the 3,500-square-foot residence began Sept. 1. The monthly rent is $2,550 less than what UC recently has been paying for a Lafayette home for current President Mark G. Yudof.

 

The lease terms were revealed as the regents are scheduled to discuss Tuesday whether to take the first steps toward the renovation of a UC-owned mansion in Kensington that had been the residence of UC presidents until five years ago. It has been mainly unused since.

 

The 1920s mansion, called Blake House, needs repairs and renovations that could cost between $3.5 million and $6 million to make it fully livable again for presidents and usable for such official functions as donor and alumni dinners, according to a UC report.

 

The regents Tuesday are expected to review a proposal for an initial $620,000 expenditure from a private endowment to make seismic and roof improvements and commission architectural and engineering reports.

 

One of the arguments for restoring Blake House as a presidential home is that it will save money in the long run if UC no longer has to pay rent for housing and entertainment locations elsewhere. It is about 11 miles north of Oakland, surrounded by extensive gardens.

Comrade Obama is not obligated to make public the names of individuals visiting the White House, according to a decision of the federal Circuit Court for the District of Columbia made public Friday.

The 3-0 decision would keep the visitor records top secret for up to 12 years after Obama leaves office.

The case was brought by Judicial Watch, the government watchdog nonprofit that has been fighting a long legal battle seeking to force release of the White House visitor logs as public records under the Freedom of Information Act reports the Washington Examiner.

But in a decision that is drawing intense criticism from across the ideological spectrum, the circuit court said the president has a "constitutional prerogative" not to tell the American people who he or his staff meets with in the White House.

The court said the president has such a prerogative because he is not covered by the FOIA and because of "special policy considerations" that allow exemption of visitor logs from classification as agency records subject to release under the public records law.

President Obama began making public some of the White House visitor logs in 2009, but refused a Judicial Watch request for all of the logs.

Administration spokesmen have often pointed to the partial release of the logs to support the president's claim that his is "the most transparent administration in history."

Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton was extremely disappointed by the decision, saying "a president that doesn't want Americans, under law, to know who his visitors are is a president who doesn't want to be accountable. The appellate court decision punches another hole in the Freedom of Information Act, the law which allows Americans to know what their government is up to."

"The legal gymnastics in this unprecedented decision shows that President Obama is not only one willing rewrite laws without going through Congress. And this legal fight, in which President Obama is fighting tooth and nail full disclosure under law of his White House visitors, further exposes his big lie that his administration is the most transparent in history. The silver lining is that at least the appellate court opened up the records of tens of thousands of White House visits that Obama was trying to keep secret," Fitton said.

The People's Republic of New York  -  The New York State Board of Elections has revised its official November 2012 election returns. This is because, in June, the New York City Board of Elections found an additional 6,435 ballots that had never been included in the original tally.

This is the second time the State Board has revised its totals for this election upwards; a similar adjustment was made in April.

Totals for all offices were adjusted. For President, the following parties gained the following amounts of votes from the recent update:

• Republican 795
• Working Families 243
• Conservative 67
• Green 46
• Libertarian 27
• Party for Socialism and Liberation 2
• Constitution 1

Intelligence committee withheld key file before critical NSA vote

A leader of the US congressional insurrection against the National Security Agency's bulk surveillance programs has accused his colleagues of withholding a key document from the House of Representatives before a critical surveillance vote.

Justin Amash, the Michigan Republican whose effort to defund the NSA's mass phone-records collection exposed deep congressional discomfort with domestic spying, said the GOP run House Intelligence Committee never allowed legislators outside the panel to see a 2011 document that described the surveillance in vague terms.

The document, a classified summary of the bulk phone records collection effort justified under Section 215 of the Patriot Act, was declassified by the Obama administration in late July.

The Justice Department and intelligence agencies prepared it for Congress before a 2011 vote to reauthorize the Patriot Act, and left it for the intelligence committees in Congress to make the document available to their colleagues reports the UK Guardian.

"It is not acceptable for the intelligence committee, or any other committee, to withhold critically important information pertaining to a program prior to the vote," Amash told the Guardian.

While the document does not go into great detail about the program, first revealed by the Guardian through documents provided by former NSA contractor Edward Snowden, it does tell legislators that NSA is collecting phone records in "bulk" from Americans. The Obama administration and intelligence agencies have pointed to the availability of the document as an example of keeping Congress fully informed about controversial NSA surveillance.

"We believe that making this document available to all members of Congress, as we did with a similar document in December 2009, is an effective way to inform the legislative debate about the reauthorization of Section 215," assistant attorney general Ronald Weich wrote to the Republican and Democratic leaders of the House intelligence committee on February 2 2011. The hundreds of members of Congress who did not serve on the intelligence committee were to be told they could read the document in a secured facility.

But Amash claimed on his Facebook page that never happened.

"I can now confirm that the House permanent select committee on intelligence did not, in fact, make the 2011 document available to representatives in Congress," Amash wrote late Sunday, "meaning that the large class of representatives elected in 2010 did not receive either of the now declassified documents detailing these programs."

"I was not aware of the document," Rush Holt, a New Jersey Democrat, told the Guardian.

"This is another example of the difficulty in Congress exerting any oversight of the intelligence community, because the information is frequently not made available to all members."

Asked if it would be possible to work with the Rogers and the House intelligence committee leadership after learning the committee withheld the document, Amash replied: "I don't know."
