Farming is a big business.  Like all businesses the owners want their labor costs driven as low as possible.  In the case of agriculture, farmers are very happy with the government paying Americans not to work while importing millions of foreign workers willing to take less money.

Farmers’ congressional allies are pressuring the Obama administration to ease up on immigration work-site enforcement, underscoring a conflict at the heart of a broad-based immigration bill.
          
This week, spurred by complaints from farmers in California’s Central Valley, Democratic Sen. Dianne Feinstein publicly urged the Department of Homeland Security to “redirect” immigration enforcement efforts toward “serious violent crimes” instead of “legitimate agricultural employers and their workers.”

“The reality is that the majority of farmworkers in the U.S. are foreign-born and unauthorized, which is well-known,” Feinstein wrote Tuesday, adding that she’s “afraid that this aggressive worksite enforcement strategy will deprive the agricultural sector of most of its workforce,” reports McCatchy News.

In 2008, the last year of the George W. Bush administration, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents audited 503 companies nationwide for employee eligibility. Last year, ICE agents conducted more than 3,000 such audits.

In 2008, federal officials issued only 18 “final orders” fining employers and ordering them to stop breaking the law against hiring workers who are in the U.S. illegally. Officials collected $675,209 in fines that year. Last year, officials issued 495 final orders and collected $12.4 million in fines.

“In agriculture, they’ve been focusing on our processors and our packing facilities, and they are causing a tremendous amount of damage,” Manuel Cunha, the president of the Nisei Farmers League in Fresno, Calif., said in an interview Thursday.

The California farmers pressed the point several weeks ago with Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., who was visiting Bakersfield, Calif., as part of a fundraising swing through the Golden State. Cunha said that the farmers, working with GOP and Democrat members of the U.S. House of Representatives from the Central Valley, were trying to raise similar concerns directly with Obama administration officials.

“They’re making these employers fire their workers,” Cunha said.

Border security and interior enforcement play a significant role in the comprehensive immigration bill the Senate passed in June. The massive bill, some 1,920 pages when it passed the Senate Judiciary Committee, grew even larger when senators added more stringent enforcement measures.

The bill includes a provision that requires all employers to adopt the E-Verify employee verification system within five years.

“This is something where we need to have a top-to-bottom approach,” Rep. Jeff Denham of California, one of the House Republicans who now support a comprehensive bill, said during House debate several weeks ago..

The work-site monitoring that’s incited the backlash involves audits of the I-9 forms and accompanying documents that attest to an employee’s work eligibility. Monetary penalties for employers that knowingly hire workers who are in the U.S. illegally start at $375 and may go as high as $16,000 per violation.

Penalties for I-9 violations may range from $110 to $1,100 per violation. This can add up.

Last month, for instance, the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals upheld a $173,250 civil fine against a small Washington state firm called Ketchikan Drywall Services. An ICE audit concluded that the company had failed to maintain accurate and complete I-9 forms for myriad, mostly temporary employees.

“The penalties were imposed for substantive deficiencies,” Judge A. Wallace Tashima wrote for the court.

Statehood Movements are Afoot

More states are a good thing.  Bring in both the more Conservative Jefferson and more Liberal Puerto Rico for a good balance.

 

 

The Siskiyou County, California Board of Supervisors voted 4-1 on Tuesday to support the county's split from the state of California.

 

It's the first in a long series of steps to form the proposed state of Jefferson, which proponents of the effort say would bring representation to rural North State counties that currently are beholden to the whims of representatives of the more heavily populated Southern California and free them from burdensome state regulations.

 

”We have to have government that's local, understands our issues and has empathy” for those affected, said Mark Baird, a Scott Valley rancher who's also president for Scott Valley Protect Our Water and vice president of the Siskiyou Water User's Association reports the Times-Standard.

 

Baird is leading the charge to form a new state from rural counties in Northern California and Southern Oregon.

 

 

”Many proposed laws are unconstitutional and deny us our God-given rights,” said Gabe Garrison of Happy Camp. “We need our own state so we can make laws that fit our way of life.”

 

Among those in attendance was Erin Ryan, field representative for GOP Rep. Doug LaMalfa. When asked for the congressman's opinion, she said that she and other LaMalfa staff members supported the effort to secede, but she did not know LaMalfa's thoughts on it.

 

Humboldt County 1st District Supervisor Rex Bohn said he can understand the frustration in Siskiyou County and that he tends to agree with most of the issues that were brought up by the board.   ”I was one of the people who thinks the State of Jefferson wasn't a bad idea,” Bohn said. “There has been a total lack of respect in terms of our water rights and the fire fee. Those things may not be important to the rest of the state, but it's important to us. This is a major thing for everyone that lives rurally.”

 

Bohn said the problem is that only 16 percent of the state is rural, and decisions in Sacramento are sometimes based on the needs or realities of more urban areas.

 

”It's kind of a drastic measure to get someone to listen to you, but I guess they feel like they're not getting heard,” he said.

 

Bohn added that the Humboldt County supervisors will likely meet to discuss the issue.

Congress says it is time for Puerto Rican

independence or statehood

Key lawmakers told Puerto Rico's governor that it's time for the island to choose between statehood and independence.

Gov. Alejandro García Padilla has been fighting to retain the island's status as a U.S. territory without voting rights, arguing that it provides the economically troubled island with an advantageous tax status. Leaders of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, which has jurisdiction over U.S. territories and insular possessions, said that's unacceptable.

“After 115 years, it is clearly time for Puerto Rico to determine what political path it will take,” said committee Chairman Ron Wyden (D-Ore.). “The current status undermines our nation's moral standing around the world,” reports The Hill.

The top Republican on the panel agreed change is in the air.

“It's clear to me the majority of Puerto Ricans don't favor the current status,” said Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska), who says she's the only sitting senator born in a U.S. territory.



Puerto Rico statehood looks good.

She has called for island residents to have a choice between retaining the current Commonwealth status; statehood; independence; and free association, similar to what the United States has with the Marshall Islands, Micronesia, and Palau.

The debate comes as Obama has asked for $2.5 million for a new referendum on statehood. Puerto Ricans voted last year in a nonbinding referendum in which 54 percent of voters said they did not want to retain the current status.

García Padilla argues the referendum was invalid because it asked voters to weigh in on the island's “present form of territorial status” instead of calling it by its name, “commonwealth.” Statehood advocates say that's nonsense.

“The current status has now lost its legitimacy,” said Pedro Pierluisi, the island's nonvoting member of Congress and president of the opposition New Progressive Party.

Pierluisi introduced legislation in May calling for an up-or-down referendum on statehood. He has threatened to take the statehood issue to the United Nations if he doesn't get his way.

Puerto Rican lawmakers Luis Gutiérrez (D-Ill.) and Nydia Velázquez (D-N.Y.) are urging their colleagues to oppose the resolution, saying Obama's call for a status referendum is a better approach.

Pelosi: 'California to be Sanctuary State for Illegals'

In an orgy of pro-Hispanic racism some twenty-eight of California’s congressional representatives are throwing their weight behind state legislation that would make it harder to deport illegal immigrants.

The representatives — all Democrats, including House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi of San Francisco — sent a letter to Comrade Governor Jerry Brown urging him to sign the bill if it reaches his desk.

The bill, known as the Trust Act, “establishes a bright line standard between local law enforcement and federal immigration enforcement” and would “continue California’s proud tradition of being a leader on smart and sensible policies,” the letter says reports the Los Angeles Times.

The representatives said unnecessary deportations have “reduced the willingness of immigrant and non-immigrant crime victims and witnesses to cooperate with local law enforcement, and consequently has diminished public safety.”

Among the letter’s signatories are Reps. Zoe Lofgren and Mike Honda both of San Jose, and recently departed members of the state Legislature now in Washington such as Reps. Alan Lowenthal of Long Beach and Jared Huffman of San Rafael.

The bill (AB 4), authored by Assemblyman Tom Ammiano (Democrat Socialist - San Francisco), would limit local law enforcement's role in working with federal authorities to begin deportation proceedings.

A nursing student has filed a lawsuit against Pima Community College in Tucson, Ariz., alleging that the school unfairly suspended her because she complained about Spanish translators taking up valuable class time.

In her complaint, Terri Bennett, 50, says that Hispanic students in her Introduction to Nursing class who required translators in order to understand the lectures impeded her “ability to concentrate, focus and listen to the lecture,” reports the New York Daily News.

Bennett alleges that the coordinator of the college’s nursing program, David Kutzler, responded to her complaints about the amount of Spanish being spoken by calling her a “bigot and a bitch.”

Following several subsequent meetings with administrators at the college, a security guard handed Bennett a letter informing her that she had been suspended and escorted her off the campus.

In the letter, Pima Community College said Bennett had been suspended because she "had violated three provisions of the Code of Conduct, namely, that she 1) disrupted class, 2) engaged in discriminatory conduct, and 3) engaged in 'harassing conduct,' including 'stalking' and 'bullying.’”

White nationalist activist Phil Kent of the group ProEnglish is offering legal support on the case.

"It's a sad day that we're here filing this suit in Arizona, it's a sad day in the United States of America, for this woman to be persecuted and insulted, discriminated against," Kent told reporters at a news conference.

Bennett’s lawyer, former Arizona GOP chairman John Munger, is suing the school for harassment, privacy violations, breach of contract, violations of the Arizona Constitution, retaliation, defamation, discrimination, and intentional infliction of emotional distress.

Pima Community College declined to comment on Bennett’s specific allegations.

Ann Coulter appeared on Fox & Friends Sunday morning to follow up on her initial reaction to the Zimmerman verdict in more detail. Coulter maintained that George Zimmerman was a sacrificial lamb for the media’s race-driven narrative, a narrative necessary to enable Barack Obama’s liberal agenda.

“This was a media-led mob, and an innocent man almost went to prison for thirty years because of well, Al Sharpton stirring up hatred and creating a narrative for which there was never any evidence and after this long trial there is still never any evidence,” Coulter said.

“This case never should have been brought. It was purely political for the media to continue their narrative of all of America as ‘Mississippi Burning.’ They want to keep us divided by race, ginned up by race, and it’s a relief that someone who was innocent did not have to be the sacrificial lamb for this media narrative about America as being run by the Klan.”

I could care less about Zimmerman or Martin.  Frankly, like all of us, I have my own troubles to worry about.

What I find interesting is the Racial Witch Hunt created by the Leftist lap-dog Media looking for ratings, race baiters looking for donations and Democrat political hacks pandering to the low IQ mouth-breathers for votes.

The fact of the matter is thousands of people are killed every year by accident or otherwise.  That is why court systems exist.  But calm, cool, level headed trials do not make money or generate votes for the Media-Racism-Politician Industry.

George Zimmerman may have been acquitted of all charges in the shooting death of Trayvon Martin, but the Media-Racism Industry is not through with him yet.  There is much more money to be made and votes to round up.

The next step is Zimmerman going through double jeopardy and and defending himself against charges from Comrade Obama'a Federal government and a civil case will no doubt come.

Leftists are pressuring the Justice Department to step in and bring a Federal civil rights case against Zimmerman, the Hispanic neighborhood watch volunteer.

You can expect this endless horror of race bating to be stretched out till the 2014 elections are over.

After all, you really did not think this was about justice did you?

This trial from Hell featured a teenage friend of Trayvon Martin was forced to admit in the George Zimmerman murder trial that she did not write a letter that was sent to Martin's mother describing what she allegedly heard on a phone call with Martin moments before he was shot.

In a painfully embarrassing moment, Rachel Jeantel was asked to read the letter out loud in court.
"Are you able to read that at all?" defense attorney Don West asked.

Jeantel, head bowed, eyes averted whispered into the court microphone, "Some but not all. I don't read cursive."

It sent a hush through the packed courtroom.


Fat, drunk and stupid

The credibility of the state's star witness is expected to be called into question following a number of tweets she posted in which she talked about the death of Trayvon Martin, getting high, drink driving and her 'court nails'.

The Smoking Gun sent messages to several of Jeantel’s Facebook friends and Twitter followers, 14 tweets (and 13 linked Twitpic photos) were deleted from Jeantel’s "@MsRachel_94" account.

Included in the deleted material were recent posts mentioning her “Court nails” and the time that had passed since Martin’s death (“16months later wowww I need a drink”). One deleted tweet linked to a sexually suggestive series of photos, while another posting included a link to a photo of liquor bottles and the message “Wat will happen I mix everything uhmmmm.”

Obamacare makes it cheaper to hire non-citizens

• With massive poverty and unemployment among American citizens, both parties fall all over themselves to pander to citizens of foreign nations and give them the jobs and wealth of native born Americans of all races.

"Under Obamacare, businesses with over 50 workers that employ American citizens without offering them qualifying health insurance could be subject to fines of up to $3,000 per worker. But because newly legalized immigrants wouldn’t be eligible for subsidies on the Obamacare exchanges until after they become citizens – at least 13 years under the Senate bill – businesses could avoid such fines by hiring the new immigrants instead."

THE WEEKLY STANDARD asked five different U.S. Senators about this problem. These five senators, all Democrats, voted to cut off debate Monday night on the revised immigration bill, but none of them knew if the bill would create a financial incentive for some employers to hire amnestied immigrants instead of American citizens.

"I don't know. I'd have to look at it closely," said Senator Bob Casey of Pennsylvania. "I just haven't read it that closely to know."

Senator Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut said he thought the Affordable Care Act's fines would apply no matter what. "I'd have to look at the ACA, but I don't think it distinguishes" between citizens and those on a path to citizenship, Blumenthal said. But then he said he wasn't quite sure. "I mean I'd have to look. You're asking a legal question. It's not an opinion question," Blumenthal added. "I don't recall any distinction in the law. But that's a good question. I'd have to check."

Senator Tom Carper of Delaware said he was too busy to answer the question. "I don't have the time to drill down on it right now,"

Insanity  -  The Supreme Court ruled Monday that states cannot on their own require would-be voters to prove they are U.S. citizens before using a federal registration system designed to make signing up easier.

Liberal and Conservative justices locked arms and voted 7-2 to throw out Arizona's voter-approved requirement that prospective voters document their U.S. citizenship in order to use a registration form produced under the Federal "Motor Voter" voter registration law.

Conservative Justices Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito dissented from the court's ruling.

Self Loathing  -  The over educated political elite snobs in Washington hate their own nation and culture.

You see this hate with Congressional act after act to undermine American workers and push jobs and businesses to relocate to Mexico or Asia.  You also see it in the endless bipartisan pandering to a mostly Hispanic wave of immigration.
